You will serve as an Office Automation Assistant within the Naval Research Laboratory. This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Major duties

  • You will provide clerical and administrative support to the Branch Administrative and Technical staff.
  • You will receive and refer telephone calls and visitors; escort visitors and relay messages; and help prepare for meetings.
  • You will receive, read, and route office mail and other documents and maintain files and records.
  • You will prepare travel orders, visit requests, overtime/ comp-time requests, personnel action requests, procurement requests, shipping/ receiving documents, travel claims, etc.
  • You will support meetings and conferences by coordinating visitor attendance, verifying clearances, contracting attendees, preparing agendas, coordinating base access, signing in attendees, etc.
  • You will type correspondence, forms, reports, and similar material involving specialized terminology in final form from rough draft, proof-read, or clean copy.
  • You will assist with maintaining logs and tracking branch correspondence and actions from initiation to completion.
  • You will maintain adequate office supplies and prepare requisitions for supplies and other related items.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or (NC-01) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing experience in operating modern office equipment (computers, faxes, copiers) and using a variety of office productivity software packages (to include word processing, spreadsheets, and databases); 2) Making arrangements for such things as travel, conferences, and meetings; and 3) Locating and assembling information for various reports, briefings, and conferences. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Successfully completed four years course of study leading to a bachelor's degree OR A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience is sufficient for meeting the minimum qualification requirements for this position.
