Are you motivated to pursue a doctorate and develop yourself as a researcher? The Department of Music is advertising a position as a PhD fellow linked to the ph.d. program in aesthetic subjects.

Note:

• The announcement does not include ph.d. education in artistic development work.
• Applicants who already hold a doctorate will not be considered.

The applicant shall develop an independent research project linked to one of the following of the department's R&D groups:

In the application, you must describe how the project is anchored in the chosen R&D group's profile and in the department's academic activity. Well in advance of the application deadline, you must contact the relevant R&D group and obtain confirmation from a potential main supervisor. The main supervisor must be employed at the Department of Music and meet the ph.d. regulations' requirements for doctoral supervision. As a PhD fellow, you are both an employee and a ph.d. candidate. You are expected to conduct the project within the employment period and complete the doctorate within the prescribed time. The position provides valuable research competence for further career both in and outside academia.

Planned start date for the position is 01.08.27.

Your immediate manager will be the Head of Department.

Qualification requirements

• To be qualified for the position, you must meet the admission requirements for the ph.d. program in aesthetic subjects. This will normally mean that you must have:
• a relevant academic master's degree that includes a major independent work equivalent to a master's thesis of at least 30 ECTS credits
• an average grade from the master's degree studies, or equivalent education, that is B or better in relation to NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must still have an equivalent academic foundation
• very good oral and written expression in English.

If you have a weaker grade background or a master's thesis of smaller scope, you may be considered if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a ph.d. education. Such documentation should, if necessary, be attached to the application; read more about this under "About the application".

In accordance with the University and College Regulations, former PhD fellows at NTNU cannot be employed in the position, regardless of the field of study. Applications from persons who already hold an approved doctorate from other institutions, nationally or internationally, will also not be processed.

About the application

We only process applications sent electronically via Jobbnorge.no before the application deadline, and which contain all mandatory attachments. The application shall contain:

• project description prepared according to the prescribed template. The project description shall be in English, Norwegian, or another Scandinavian language.
• master's thesis. If the thesis was recently submitted, a draft may be attached.
• supervisor confirmation according to the prescribed template from the intended main supervisor at the Department of Music.
• name and contact information for two relevant references.

Applicants who do not meet the ordinary grade requirements must document special suitability for ph.d. education, for example through relevant work experience, scientific publications, or other research-relevant work. If the work was performed in collaboration with others, the applicant must describe their own contribution.

Applicants with a master's thesis of less than 30 ECTS credits must document other equivalent grounds for admission.

If all or part of your education was taken abroad, we ask you to also attach documentation on the scope and quality of your entire educational path, both bachelor's and master's education, in addition to any other higher education. If your institution does not offer a diploma supplement, please attach an overview of the grading system from the educational institution. About the project description

The project description is the most important basis for assessment in the application. This documents the project's scientific quality, relevance to the Department of Music's academic activities, and to the department's strategy. Furthermore, it is crucial that the project can be completed within the prescribed 3 years, including the training part through the ph.d. program.

In the assessment, particular emphasis will be placed on:

• the project's scientific quality and originality
• the applicant's academic prerequisites and research potential
• the project's connection to the chosen R&D group and the department's strategy
• the project's feasibility within the prescribed ph.d. period

The person employed commits to completing the ph.d. education within the employment period and within available resource frameworks. The applicant must therefore demonstrate access to necessary equipment and infrastructure for the project.

PhD fellows at the Faculty of Humanities are allocated up to NOK 100,000 in operating funds for the implementation of the research project.

Salary and terms

In the position as PhD fellow code 1017, your salary will normally be gross NOK 580,000 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from the salary.

The employment period is 3 years, but other career-promoting work, such as teaching, may be considered added to the position, depending on the department's needs.

Upon employment in a PhD fellow position, you receive conditional admission to the relevant doctoral program. It is a prerequisite for continued employment that you meet the requirements for full admission within three months after starting the position. You must furthermore participate in the organized doctoral studies for the remainder of the employment period. See ph.d. regulations §6 for information on requirements for final admission.

For necessary academic and social interaction, it is a prerequisite that you are physically present and available to the institution on a daily basis.
