Commercial Assistant
About the company
What if buying bunkers was about much more than securing fuel at the right price? At NORDEN, it is. As our Commercial Assistant, you will take your first step into the commercial side of shipping, right where the market, our vessels and our trading activities meet.
You will become part of a global Bunkers team with colleagues across Singapore, Copenhagen and Annapolis. The setup gives you experienced colleagues to work alongside while also giving you responsibility for your own tasks and the opportunity to build your understanding of the bunker market. What you will be doing
Your tasks
Based in Singapore, you will join NORDEN’s Bunkers team and support our Far East bunker desk. Working with colleagues, suppliers, barge operators and internal operations teams, you will help coordinate and optimise deliveries across the region. Why this role? A vessel needs bunkers. But before they can be purchased, there are a lot of pieces that need to come together.
As Commercial Assistant, you will support bunker enquiries and stay close to deliveries after a stem has been placed. You will coordinate with suppliers and barge operators, adjust delivery plans when needed and keep the relevant stakeholders aligned.
A key part of the role is anticipating operational challenges and finding practical solutions before delays occur, including coordinating barge changes to optimize timing and execution.
To be more concrete, you will support the Bunkers team with the day-to-day activities that keep the desk moving. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting bunker enquiries and procurement activities.
- Coordinating deliveries with suppliers and barge operators after a stem has been placed.
- Optimizing delivery plans, including barge changes, to avoid delays and keep deliveries on time.
- Aligning agents, operations teams and other stakeholders around practical solutions.
- Building long lasting supplier and barge operator relationships across Singapore and the Far East.
- Supporting bunker claims, invoices, data and other commercial activities.
Requirements
What you will bring You take initiative, are organized and comfortable managing your own responsibilities while working closely with others. You follow deliveries closely, bring the right people together and act early when plans need to change.
In addition, you bring
- Some experience from shipping, maritime, commodities or another relevant commercial environment.
- An interest in bunkers and the commercial side of shipping.
- Ability to communicate with different stakeholders and following up when something needs to move forward.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
