Process Engineer
Your tasks
The main responsibilities for the position are process development within semiconductor manufacturing, process optimization, industrialization, process transfer, as well as low-volume production of discrete transistors and millimeter-wave components.
The role is central to NordAmps' transition from a research-driven organization to a commercial semiconductor company, with increasing requirements for process stability, reproducibility, yield, quality, manufacturability, and delivery capability.
As a process engineer, you will have an active and practical role in the development and improvement of our manufacturing processes. The work includes planning and conducting experiments, developing and optimizing process flows and process recipes, identifying root causes of process and equipment problems, and implementing corrective actions.
An important part of the role is to transform research processes into robust, documented, and reproducible manufacturing processes suitable for industrialization and commercial production.
The work covers several process steps within semiconductor manufacturing, for example lithography, thin-film deposition and metallization, dry and wet etching, as well as process measurement and electrical characterization.
You will also contribute to process documentation, development of standardized work instructions, equipment qualification, maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement work.
Close collaboration with external manufacturing partners, equipment suppliers, and other vendors is an important part of the work, especially during process transfer, process and equipment development, problem-solving, and future scaling of production.
After manufacturing, electrical characterization and material characterization are used to evaluate process performance, component yield, and reproducibility, as well as to support continued component and product development.
The process engineer will work closely with other process engineers and other parts of NordAmps, Lund University, external manufacturing partners, equipment suppliers, and customers. The role is important for the implementation of NordAmps' industrialization plan and for establishing the processes and working methods required for future commercial deliveries.
Qualifications PhD in electrical engineering, microelectronics, materials science, applied physics, engineering physics, nanotechnology, or equivalent. Extensive practical experience in cleanroom work within semiconductor manufacturing or micro- and nanofabrication. Good practical experience in several of the following areas: Photolithography and/or advanced lithography techniques Dry and wet etching Thin-film deposition Metallization processes Process measurement and process control within semiconductor manufacturing Experience in developing, optimizing, documenting, and troubleshooting manufacturing processes. Experience with characterization techniques such as SEM. Ability to systematically analyze process problems, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Experience in developing and documenting process recipes, standardized work instructions, and manufacturing or laboratory processes. Very good communication skills in English. Ability to work independently, take responsibility, and lead technical tasks while also contributing effectively in multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of III-V semiconductor materials and components, especially III-V nanostructures. Experience in the fabrication and processing of nanowires. Very good experience in electrical characterization of semiconductor components with probe stations. Good experience in layout work.
Requirements
Additional desirable competencies Experience working in NanoLab in Lund. Experience in improving process yield, reproducibility, and component performance. Experience in linking process parameters and process data to electrical performance and component performance. Experience in installation, commissioning, qualification, or process ownership for manufacturing equipment. Experience in collaboration with equipment manufacturers, technical support organizations, vendors, or external manufacturing partners. Experience in root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective actions regarding process and equipment problems. Experience in coordinating manufacturing and process activities between multiple cleanrooms, laboratories, or production facilities. Knowledge of statistical analysis, process monitoring, or statistical process control is desirable. Experience in moving processes from research and development toward controlled and reproducible production. Experience in documentation, quality assurance, safety procedures, and continuous improvement work.
Personal qualities Since we are a small and agile company, we place great emphasis on personal qualities. We are looking for you who: Takes ownership and responsibility for processes, equipment, tasks, and deliveries. Enjoys practical experimental work in a cleanroom and solving concrete manufacturing and process problems. Works in a structured and systematic manner to develop, document, and improve processes. Has a strong drive to identify the root cause of problems instead of merely treating the symptoms. Takes initiative and is comfortable working independently. Collaborates effectively across competence and organizational boundaries. Enjoys working together with universities, vendors, equipment manufacturers, and external manufacturing partners. Understands the importance of reproducible processes, documentation, quality, and a structured way of working when a technology moves from research to commercial production. Thrives in an entrepreneurial and fast-changing technology company where priorities can change quickly. Combines scientific and technical depth with a pragmatic and results-oriented way of working. Is motivated by transforming advanced semiconductor technology from research processes into stable, manufacturable, and commercially viable products.
