The Packaging Design Specialist role is based in Oulu, Finland with a target start date of 1 November 2026, and candidates must be located in Finland as relocation support is not available.

As a Packaging Design Specialist, you will play a crucial role in bringing our new hardware products to life through creative and functional packaging solutions. Your work will directly influence the customer experience and contribute to the overall success of our products. In this role, you will collaborate closely with various teams, including supply chain, production, R&D, and external stakeholders, to ensure a seamless and efficient packaging design process.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Design and develop packaging solutions for new hardware products, considering both quality and practical functionality.
  • Review and provide feedback on packaging designs created by external partners, ensuring they meet our quality standards and brand guidelines.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and innovations in packaging design, incorporating sustainable and cost-effective materials and practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and ensure packaging designs align with the overall product strategy.
  • Conduct packaging design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure a high level of quality and consistency across all packaging materials.
  • Work closely with the supply chain team to optimize packaging processes, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a smooth flow of information and timely resolution of packaging-related issues.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Must-have:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of packaging materials: Understanding the properties and applications of common packaging materials such as corrugated cardboard, plastics (foams, films), wood, and cushioning materials.
  • Familiarity with CAD software: Basic proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or similar) for creating packaging designs and technical drawings.
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to articulate design ideas, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, logistics), and understand requirements.
  • Valid citizenship of a NATO-member country.

Nice-to-have:

  • Basic knowledge of packaging testing standards: Familiarity with industry-standard testing methodologies (e.g., ISTA protocols) to ensure product protection during transit.
  • Understanding of packaging manufacturing processes: Awareness of how different packaging components are produced and assembled.
  • Awareness of sustainability in packaging: Basic understanding of eco-friendly packaging principles, material recycling, and concepts like Design for Environment (DfE).
  • Problem-solving aptitude: Ability to identify packaging challenges and contribute to developing practical solutions
  • Willingness to travel internationally on short notice (expected less than 5% of the time)
