JUNIOR TEST ENGINEER HIL&SIMULATION
About the company
Nidec Conversion is a $600M Business Unit of Nidec Corporation, a $18 Billion+ global company, headquartered in Milan (Italy) and footprint in more than 10 countries. Nidec Industrial Solutions offers complete, innovative and tailored electrical systems for energy efficiency to hundreds of customers worldwide. Its target markets are traditional and renewable energy, steel, petrochemical, marine, industrial automation and emerging segments in energy field. The global organization specializes in designing, engineering, commissioning and service complex applications with electric motors and generators, electronic power converters and inverters, automation and software for industrial processes, complete electric solutions, retrofitting of power plants and hydroelectric generators. In addition, the group has strong know-how in the field of integrated systems for the production and storage of electrical energy from renewable sources and their integration into electricity grids, as well as in the design and implementation of infrastructures for e-mobility.
Your tasks
The candidate will be responsible for testing within the scope of power converters for electric drives and other applications in the energy field (Statcom).
They know the design criteria of power converters and are able to understand the operation of traditional and multilevel converters by testing all or part of their correct operation and compliance with design parameters, verifying total compliance with the design tolerances indicated therein and indicated in the technical specifications that the candidate must be able to correctly understand and interpret.
They examine the grid in which the converter is inserted in order to determine its effect by evaluating and studying any possible undesired effect due to the interaction of the converter with the grid to which it is connected. Knowledge of grid phenomena typical of power grids is therefore required, such as: voltage variations at nodes, frequency variations, reactive power exchange, active power injection/absorption from/to the grids.
Requirements
They are able to perform modeling of power converters through numerical simulations; in particular, advanced proficiency in the use of the following simulation software is required: Matlab/Simulink.
Educational background: Degree in electrical/electronic engineering.
Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
- knowledge of the main algorithms useful for converter regulation aimed at grid regulation and corrections to be implemented following disturbing effects on it.
- knowledge (even if only academic) of HIL (Hardware In the Loop) test methods and the main software normally offered by providers of these systems (such as RT Lab).
- basic knowledge of Grid Following and Grid Forming algorithms at the basis of the regulation/correction imposed by grid variations, and of the mathematical algorithms at the basis of the regulations carried out using virtual impedances/admittances at the basis of the study of Statcoms intended as static synchronous machines (VSM: Virtual Synchronous Machine).
- at least basic knowledge of digital control systems.
Good knowledge of power electronics is required, knowledge of multilevel converter topologies used in the field of electric drives and Power Quality (Energy), and knowledge of the basic reference technologies: power semiconductors, cooling technologies, familiarity with electronic boards containing DSP and FPGA, communication protocols, FO communication, C language. Familiarity with mathematical models of converters in the Matlab-Simulink environment is considered a must.
It is necessary to have familiarity with power electronics, at least at an academic level.
Knowledge in the field of simulations is also considered important.
Knowledge of relevant Standards on converters in the IEC /CEI field and of test systems, particularly in Real Time, is required.
