Position Overview Shelter Staff provide supportive, compassionate, and culturally safe care to guests accessing the shelter. This role involves maintaining safety, distributing supplies, supporting guests with basic needs, and ensuring the shelter environment is respectful and welcoming. This position reports to the Shelter Supervisor and the Manager of Community Housing and Shelter Services. Greet guests and assist with shelter entry.Provide and prepare supper/snacks Provide access to donation items such as hygiene kits, socks etc.Build supportive relationships using kindness and respect.Monitor the shelter space and maintain a calm, safe atmosphere.De-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed approaches.Conduct regular safety checks and report concerns.Facility DutiesKeep the shelter clean and organized.Assist with setup, takedown, and restocking supplies.Complete attendance and incident reporting accurately.Understanding of Indigenous community realities and cultural practices.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to stay calm in crisis situations.Experience in community service, shelter work, or outreach is an asset.Willingness to follow trauma-informed, harm-reduction approaches.We Strongly Encourage Applications From:Indigenous applicants (First Nations, Inuit, Mtis)Individuals with lived experienceMembers of other equity-deserving groups
