Oil Trader Assistant
Location: Singapore Type: Full-time, on-site
Key responsibilities
Trading and operations
- Handle day-to-day activities for oil products, biofuels, and carbon emissions trading, including blending, storage, and related operations
- Trade derivatives and futures to hedge physical positions
- Negotiate and conclude spot and term transactions
- Take part in drafting and negotiating procurement and sales contracts, calculate procurement costs, and ensure trades are executed properly
Market and business development
- Track global petroleum market movements and share insights internally to build understanding of product fundamentals
- Monitor import/export arbitrage economics, particularly for China
- Build and maintain relationships with new and existing counterparties through regular visits and daily communication
- Drive sales growth with prospective customers in Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas
Reporting and team
- Prepare routine departmental and cross-departmental reports
- Help management mentor junior traders, trading assistants, and analysts on methodology and company culture
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director, and General Manager
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in International Trade or a related field
- At least 2 years of oil trading experience;
- Good knowledge of Chinese domestic production and trading of oil products and biofuels
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Fluent in English for business communication, contract negotiation, market analysis, and internal reports
- Able to speak and write Chinese to work with Chinese-speaking colleagues and clients, and to prepare weekly and monthly analysis reports
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills with a strategic mindset
- Good communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Team player who is entrepreneurial, open-minded, and eager to learn
