Summary

The National Trust is renowned for its food and hospitality. We run 185 cafes, tea-rooms and restaurants all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we'd love you to join us. We’re looking for a Food and Beverage Team Member. In this role, you’d be making a real difference to the work of the National Trust, as well as helping to give people a memorable day out.

This location is in a rural area, so please think about how you’d get here for work, before applying for the job.

Contract type: This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekends and Bank Holidays but does not require evening or split shifts.

Contract duration: Fixed term ending 30th June 2027. There are two contracts available.

Hours/Working pattern: You'll typically work 2 - 4 shifts per week, between 8:30am and 5pm, including weekends and bank holidays. As this is a zero-hour contract, hours are not guaranteed and may vary from week to week.

Salary: £12.75 per hour

Internally you'll be known as a Food & Beverage Team Member.

What it's like to work here

The cafe at Longshaw welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, serving home-made bakes, hearty pies and local scoop ice cream to ramblers, cyclists, dog walkers, families and everyone in between. We invested in the building 5 years ago, hit our first £1m sales last year and continue to grow. We're now looking for a Kitchen Assistant to support the lead chef in our friendly kitchen team. From helping run service, prepping salad or making scones by hand. It's fast paced and hard work.

What you'll be doing

As a Kitchen Assistant, your main focus will be back of house, supporting the Chef and his team in a range of tasks from prep to service. You’ll help to welcome and look after everyone who comes to the café by helping to keep the quality and standard of our food high. With your love of working with people, your ‘can-do’ attitude and your desire to provide an outstanding service, you’ll be making sure everyone has an enjoyable time. This is a lively business that’s constantly on the go, so teamwork and adaptability are crucial.

You’ll always keep the standards of food and drink preparation and presentation high. Using your excellent eye for detail, you’ll make sure all items sent out are accurate and looking good. At times, you may need to help front of house by washing pots or running food.

We’ll give you an induction that fits the job, and training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you in your role. You can sign up for further professional training and development if you wish.
