Security Analyst - Technical Security - Entry to Experienced Level (Maryland)
Security and Counterintelligence is responsible for the protection of NSA/CSS information, people, and facilities worldwide. In support of this mission, Security personnel oversee the development, installation, and maintenance of physical security systems. Security personnel help maintain integral elements of an overall security theory, posture, and infrastructure designed to efficiently deter, delay, detect and identify threats to NSA people, resources and facilities.
Major duties
Security and Counterintelligence is responsible for the protection of NSA/CSS information, people and facilities worldwide. In support of this mission, Technical Security Analysts provide security analysis, risk recommendations, and mitigations to decision makers and customers. They develop and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of countermeasures for mitigating security risks. Technical Security Analysts prepare and maintain assessments and security databases detailing the findings, recommendations, status, and results of assessment actions. Technical Security Analyst responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Applying principles, methods, and tools for assessing and mitigating threats/vulnerabilities
- Understanding commercial information technology marketplace, products, and services
- Assessing applicability of available tools to various situations
- Understanding the principal methods and techniques of gathering intelligence information
- Evaluating the scope and availability of intelligence analysis tools available at NSA
- Preparing and maintaining files, risk assessments, and technical security databases detailing the findings, recommendations, status, and results of assessment actions.
- Developing and monitoring implementation and effectiveness of countermeasures for mitigating security risks.
- Briefing customers and managers concerning technical security policy and procedures and specific cases.
- Applying technical security policy and regulations
- Using resources effectively and efficiently to arrange information in a useful manner
- Obtaining, evaluating, organizing, and maintaining information
- Disseminating information to appropriate internal and external parties
- Creating a product based on analysis of security and/or counterintelligence data
- Providing timely and accurate responses to requests for assistance, information, products or services
- Authoring routine and/or detailed documents such as assessments, reports, and memorandums
- Completing coursework and certifications through the US Air Force TEMPEST School and/or the Interagency Training Center. The agency is currently hiring Security Analysts to specialize in:

Qualifications
The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following: signals analysis, intelligence analysis, financial analysis, research analysis, physical or personnel security, TEMPEST, radio frequency, counterintelligence, electrical/electronics, technical surveillance countermeasures, telecommunications, wireless security, network packet analysis, cybersecurity, acquisition management, risk assessment, or security and counterintelligence (CI) investigations, or construction/facilities. ENTRY/DEVELOPMENTAL Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 4 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience, or relevant military experience and 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree and no experience. FULL PERFORMANCE Entry is with a high school diploma or GED plus 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience, or relevant military experience and 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or relevant security training plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience.
Education
A degree in any field is acceptable. Military training must be at least 18 semester hours of training in security analysis.
