Robotics Technician
NIST is seeking a Robotics Technician to conduct technical and operational support to evaluate and enhance robot capabilities in manufacturing and other applications. In this role, your work will advance the operation, programming, and maintenance of robotic systems and measurement equipment to support laboratory experiments and the development of standards.
Major duties
NIST's Engineering Laboratory promotes U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology for engineered systems to enhance economic security and improve quality of life. Within this laboratory, the Intelligent Systems Division develops, advances, and deploys measurement science and standards to speed the development, adoption, and integration of leading-edge intelligent technologies, smart manufacturing, and robotics. As a Robotics Technician, you will: Program, operate, and maintain collaborative, industrial, and autonomous robotic systems. Operate, compensate, and calibrate advanced measurement equipment, including laser trackers, 3D scanners, and oscilloscopes. Conduct and support laboratory and field experiments to facilitate data acquisition, analysis, and the development of standards. Maintain clean, safe, and organized laboratory spaces, oversee equipment documentation, and manage parts procurement and staff training.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level (or ZT-I at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience supporting robotics and laboratory operations, including using computer-aided design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks to design parts, end-of-arm tooling, or fixtures; programming or operating robotic systems operating fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printers; and collecting, processing, and analyzing data using software OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in an appropriate field of physical science. OR Combination of education and experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
