Hardware Product Manager (Product Planning & Supply Chain)

The Product Manager (Lifecycle & Supply Chain) is responsible for driving new product development direction and managing the complete product lifecycle. This role combines technical project management with strategic supplier relations. You will be tasked with translating internal business needs into actionable supplier specifications, proactively mitigating component obsolescence risks, and overseeing product compliance and quality assurance. By collaborating closely with engineering, sales, and operations, you will ensure our products meet the highest standards of performance, delivery, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Researching New Products and Formulating Development Policies
Researching and evaluating ODM/OEM partners that meet requirements
Organizing product requirements from internal stakeholders such as engineering, sales, and operations
Translating business and technical requirements into product specifications for supplier evaluation
Proposing appropriate products or solutions from the perspectives of cost, performance, quality, and regulatory compliance
Collaborating with internal teams to concretize product requirements and development policies
- Product Lifecycle and Risk Management
Checking component lifecycle status to identify end-of-life and obsolescence risks early
Evaluating the impact of EOL and PCN notifications on product BOM
Promoting risk mitigation measures such as last-time buys, alternative component qualification, and design changes
Managing, releasing, and performing impact assessments of PCN, and sharing them with relevant departments
- Project Management and Planning
Identifying long-lead-time components and coordinating with stakeholders to create plans to mitigate supply risks
Confirming whether project deliverables align with requirements, specifications, and schedules
Managing product development, supplier coordination, and quality response to ensure they proceed according to plan
- Coordination with External Testing and Certification Bodies
Coordinating testing requirements and schedules with testing and certification bodies
Confirming whether testing content aligns with project deadlines and regulatory requirements
Managing the information, documentation, and internal/external responses necessary for obtaining certifications
- Supplier Management and Quality Assurance
Periodically evaluating supplier performance from the perspectives of quality, delivery, and compliance
Reviewing non-conformance reports from suppliers and verifying the validity of root cause analysis and corrective actions
Collaborating with internal stakeholders to judge the completion of corrective actions and close them
- Internal Operations Support
Investigating non-conforming products, organizing response policies, and following up until resolution
Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to promote the prevention of recurrence of quality issues and supply challenges
Qualifications Required Experience
3 to 6 years of practical experience in hardware product management, product engineering, or strategic procurement
Experience collaborating with OEM/ODM suppliers and engineering teams
Practical experience in component lifecycle management and BOM analysis
Required Skills
Ability to organize business requirements into hardware technical requirements
Understanding of hardware manufacturing processes and quality control
Basic knowledge of international hardware regulations, certifications, and compliance
Ability to perform business duties in English
Japanese communication skills are a plus
Preferred Requirements
Experience in robotics, industrial automation, or the high-tech hardware industry
Experience in cost analysis, cost modeling, and contract negotiation with suppliers
Knowledge regarding regulatory compliance such as CE, FCC, etc.
