Deputy Chief Engineer

Job Title: Deputy Chief Engineer Location: Dorset (Hybrid / Flexible Working Available) Security Clearance: Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC) About the Role Working as an agency partner for a leading global defense and maritime innovator, we are seeking a Deputy Chief Engineer to support the Submarine Systems Division. Working alongside key divisional leaders, you will drive the application of the Engineering Lifecycle, own solution and technology roadmaps, oversee architectural design, and mentor a team of System Design Authorities (SDAs). Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership: Chair technical reviews, oversee system specifications, and sanction architectural design solutions across the product portfolio.

Strategy & Innovation: Drive technology roadmaps, monitor emerging market trends, and identify candidate solution options for complex customer requirements.

Customer & Product Support: Collaborate with Product Managers on opportunity roadmaps and support SDAs on complex customer programs.

Team Leadership & Line Management: Line manage, mentor, and resource-plan for System Design Authorities within the division.

Key Requirements & Background Strong background as a Systems Thinker with experience across system modeling, requirements management, system design, or product lifecycles.

Technical domain expertise in one or more of the following: Sonar/seismic arrays, acoustic/RF systems, or sensor signal processing

Real-time systems, decision support, or industrial automation & control

Towed arrays, cable handling, or electric actuation systems

Weapon, countermeasure, or safety systems

Modeling, simulation, or future submarine design concepts

Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
