The challenge This isn't a role where you'll be handed a procurement timetable and simply asked to run the process.
You'll be expected to ask questions. To challenge assumptions. To influence specifications. To identify new approaches to delivery. To understand market dynamics.
And to help shape sourcing strategies before procurement even begins.
You'll work on projects that require both technical procurement expertise and the confidence to engage senior stakeholders who have strong views on what "good" looks like. Day-to-day you'll be:
- Leading complex tenders from concept through to award
- Managing high-profile works, services and corporate procurements
- Developing category plans and sourcing strategies
- Identifying opportunities to improve value and performance
- Driving supplier engagement and competition
- Supporting compliance with the new procurement landscape
- Producing procurement reports and governance documentation
- Managing and developing junior procurement colleagues
- Working closely with operational, technical and finance stakeholders
For procurement professionals who enjoy complexity, stakeholder engagement and genuinely strategic procurement, this is an opportunity to broaden your portfolio, increase your influence and become a recognised commercial partner rather than simply a procurement adviser.
Requirements
What's next? If you're an experienced public sector procurement professional looking for a bigger challenge, this could be the move that takes you from delivering procurements to helping shape an entire category portfolio. We're recruiting a procurement specialist to lead a varied and commercially significant category area covering projects that directly influence how places, estates, infrastructure and corporate services are delivered. You'll oversee procurements typically valued between £3m and £6m while helping drive a broader commercial agenda across a large and diverse organisation. The portfolio is likely to appeal if you've worked across areas such as:
While construction category experience would be particularly valuable, we're equally interested in individuals who understand how to manage complex procurement projects involving multiple stakeholders, technical specifications and significant contract values.
You'll probably bring
- Recent public sector procurement experience
- Experience leading high-value procurement projects
- Knowledge of construction, property, infrastructure or corporate service categories
- Strong e-tendering and evaluation experience
- Commercial credibility with senior stakeholders
- Experience balancing governance, risk and delivery deadlines
- An interest in category management rather than purely transactional procurement
CIPS would be advantageous. However, candidates who are currently studying towards CIPS, or who are prepared to commence CIPS studies upon joining, are very much encouraged to apply.
