We conduct research and education within the subjects of physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, technical design, technical physics, and didactics in mathematics and science. Here, unique and world-leading research is conducted within the research centers FSCN Research Centre and Sports Tech Research Centre.

At the research center Fibre Science and Communication Network (FSCN), research is conducted on advanced materials and process technology. The work is interdisciplinary and aims to develop resource-efficient processes as well as improve the functionality of bio-based materials and energy materials.

Tasks

The employment concerns independent doctoral studies, with research up to 100%. Teaching and administrative work may be included, up to a maximum of 20%.

The current doctoral studies will be conducted within a project focused on the development of aluminium-based batteries, with a focus on electrolyte, positive electrode, and negative electrode. To advance the technology, a fundamental scientific understanding of these key components is required. A central goal is therefore to investigate the mechanisms for energy storage in aluminium batteries under varying operating conditions.

As a PhD student, you will conduct independent research under the guidance of your supervisors. The tasks primarily include synthesis and characterization of battery materials, electrochemical evaluation, data analysis, and theoretical analysis.

You will also collaborate with the project's national and international partners, complete courses at the doctoral level, present research results at international conferences and research seminars, and publish the results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Eligibility

Basic eligibility is granted to those who have completed a degree at an advanced level, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at an advanced level, or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.

Special eligibility is granted to those who have at least 90 higher education credits in technical physics, or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.

Assessment Criteria

Assessment and selection among applicants are based on scientific competence and personal qualities.

When assessing scientific competence, particular consideration is given to demonstrated aptitude for research, the quality of previous academic work, including bachelor's and master's theses as well as other scientific publications, and the ability to conduct research work independently and in collaboration with others within material physics.

It is meritorious if the applicant has experience in research regarding the manufacturing and characterization of batteries and battery materials, especially aluminium batteries.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in experimental research and analytical work. You can work independently, take responsibility for a long-term research project, and at the same time contribute to good collaboration in research groups and interdisciplinary environments. You have a good ability to cooperate and communicate and are motivated to contribute to an active and supportive research environment.

Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Other Assessment Criteria

Very good ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is a requirement.
