A Director of Engineering is a senior leadership role responsible for managing engineering teams, delivering technology strategy, and ensuring successful execution of engineering initiatives. They bridge the gap between executive leadership and engineering managers. Here are the key roles and responsibilities: 1.Engineering Leadership Lead and mentor Engineering Managers and technical leaders. Build high-performing, collaborative engineering teams. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Drive employee engagement, career development, and succession planning. 2.Strategic Planning Define and execute the engineering strategy aligned with business goals. Develop technology roadmaps in partnership with Product and Executive leadership. Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and capabilities. Support long-term technology investment decisions. 3.Delivery Management Oversee the successful delivery of Process equipment and platforms. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with high quality. Manage priorities, resources, risks, and dependencies across multiple teams. Monitor key delivery metrics and continuously improve engineering performance. 4.Technical Oversight Guide architectural decisions and technical direction. Promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and design principles. Ensure system scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability. Encourage adoption of modern technologies and engineering tools. 5.People Management Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent. Conduct performance reviews and establish development plans. Coach managers on leadership and team management. Resolve organizational and team challenges effectively. 6.Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner closely with Product Management, Manufacturing , QA, Supply chain , Operations, and Field service team Align engineering priorities with business objectives. Communicate project status, risks, and strategic initiatives to executives Support customer-facing discussions when technical leadership is required. 7.Engineering Operations Establish and improve engineering processes Drive automation, and release management practices. Monitor engineering KPIs such as: Delivery predictability Deployment frequency Lead time for changes Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR) Defect rates Team productivity
8.Budget & Resource Management Manage engineering budgets and technology investments. Plan team capacity and resource allocation. Evaluate vendors, tools, and technology platforms. Optimize engineering costs while maintaining quality.

Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements. Manage technical debt and operational risks. Develop disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
