Education:

Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience.

Tasks:

  • Build staging or erect scaffolding for heavy metalworking jobs.
  • Check products for correct shapes, dimensions and other specifications.
  • Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment.
  • Cut, bend, roll, ream, punch, drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products.
  • Document work completed.
  • Investigate problems to fix or make minor repair.
  • Lay out, set up and operate one or more light or heavy metalworking machines.
  • Operate gas or oil fired furnace to heat metal to proper temperatures prior to forging.
  • Operate machines or equipment which weld, solder, bolt, screw or rivet metal parts together.
  • Operate presses or other forging machines to perform hot or cold forging to shape or form metal.
  • Place metal pieces in furnace.
  • Position and adjust dies on anvil of forging machinery.
  • Position heated or cooled metal pieces on die of press or other forging machinery.
  • Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions.
  • Remove metal pieces from furnace when colour or metal indicates proper forging temperature.
  • Select and transport material to work area manually or using crane or hoist.
