metalworking machine operator
Education:
Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience.
Tasks:
- Build staging or erect scaffolding for heavy metalworking jobs.
- Check products for correct shapes, dimensions and other specifications.
- Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment.
- Cut, bend, roll, ream, punch, drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products.
- Document work completed.
- Investigate problems to fix or make minor repair.
- Lay out, set up and operate one or more light or heavy metalworking machines.
- Operate gas or oil fired furnace to heat metal to proper temperatures prior to forging.
- Operate machines or equipment which weld, solder, bolt, screw or rivet metal parts together.
- Operate presses or other forging machines to perform hot or cold forging to shape or form metal.
- Place metal pieces in furnace.
- Position and adjust dies on anvil of forging machinery.
- Position heated or cooled metal pieces on die of press or other forging machinery.
- Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions.
- Remove metal pieces from furnace when colour or metal indicates proper forging temperature.
- Select and transport material to work area manually or using crane or hoist.
