LSR Engineer (Process)
Our MedTech manufacturing team produces precision-molded and assembled components. We are establishing Liquid SiliconeRubber (LSR) molding capability at our Singapore site. The LSR Engineer (Process) will develop molding processes, support new product introduction and help establish reliable production methods.
This role suits an engineer with hands-on LSR processing experience who enjoys conducting trials, analyzing defects and converting development results into controlled production processes. You will work with the LSR Principal Engineer, Integration Engineer, Automation/EOAT Engineer and cross-functional manufacturing teams.
Role Purpose
Develop, characterize and improve LSR injection molding processes from feasibility and sample builds through qualification and production ramp. The role owns assigned process studies, molding parameters, process windows and troubleshooting activities to meet product quality, output and cost requirements.
You will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and work within the technical direction and validation approach agreed with the LSR Principal Engineer and Quality. The Process Engineer defines molding and product handling requirements, working with Integration and Automation/EOAT Engineers to implement them in the production cell.
Key Responsibilities
LSR Process Engineering and Development
- Review customer drawings, material specifications, critical quality characteristics and volume requirements. Prepare feasibility studies, trial plans and sample build schedules for assigned products.
- Independently set up and run LSR molding trials. Establish metering and mixing conditions, injection profiles, shot size, switch over, holding conditions, mold temperature, vacuum and curing time.
- Apply scientific molding, process characterization and design of experiments (DOE) to establish process windows, assess cavity balance and understand sensitivity to material, tooling and equipment variation.
- Troubleshoot flash, short shots, air entrapment, incomplete cure, surface defects, dimensional variation, sticking and demolding damage. Verify root causes and corrective actions using trial data.
- Provide process input during mold design and manufacturability reviews, including gating, cold runners, venting, thermal control, shrinkage, cavity layout and demolding features.
- Establish material handling, contamination control, startup, shutdown and restart practices. Assess cure inhibition risks and any post-curing requirements against material supplier and customer specifications.
- Define part release conditions, insert loading requirements and acceptable handling limits. Confirm thatautomated demolding and subsequent operations maintain the approved process andfinished part quality.
Validation Change Management and Risk Control
- Prepare and execute process characterization and qualification protocols with the Principal Engineer andQuality, including installation, operational and performance qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) where required.
- Use suitable measurement methods, sampling plans and statistical analysis to demonstrate process capability. Record deviations, investigate failures and prepare qualification reports for review and approval.
- Maintain process specifications, parameter sheets, work instructions, process failure mode andeffects analyses (PFMEA), control plans and troubleshooting guides.
- Assess process risks and requalification needs for mold, material, equipment and parameter changes. Implement approved changes through the site change control process.
Continuous Improvement and Operational Impact
- Use statistical process control (SPC), capability studies, defect Pareto and cycle time analysis to identify and implement improvements in yield, scrap, material use and productivity.
- Work with Production,Maintenance and Tooling to resolve recurring process issues, improve repeatability and reduce process related stoppages and rework.
- Transfer approved processes to Production and train technicians and operators in setup, process monitoring, defect recognition and escalation.
Compliance and Audit Support
- Perform engineering activities in accordance with the site quality management system, ISO 13485 and applicable good manufacturing practice, customer and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain traceable engineering records and provide process evidence for audits, deviations, non conformances, corrective actions and customer complaint investigations.
Customer Supplier and Stakeholder Coordination
- Work with material, mold and equipment suppliers to resolve assigned technical issues and verify process readiness before scheduled trials.
- Provide process data andtechnical explanations for customer reviews, new product introduction and change assessments. Escalate unresolved or high-risk issues to the Principal Engineer and Manager.
Reporting and Analytics
- Monitor first pass yield, scrap, defect trends, cycle time, process capability and material consumption for assigned processes. Report abnormal trends and corrective action status.
- Prepare clear trial reports, capability summaries and improvement updates, including measured results, remaining risks and recommended next actions.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Polymer, Materials, Industrial Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on LSR injection molding process engineering experience, including independent machine setup, mold trials, parameter development and troubleshooting.
- Practical knowledge of two-component LSR metering and mixing, curing behavior, cold runners, mold heating, vacuum, venting and material, mold and machine interactions.
- Experience applying scientific molding, DOE, SPC, process capability analysis and structured root causeanalysis. Able to interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Experience preparing process specifications, trial reports, work instructions and qualification documentation in a controlled manufacturing environment.
- Clear technical communication, good documentation discipline and the ability to work with suppliers andcross-functional teams. Willing to support scheduled trials and production troubleshooting on site.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with medical device components, cleanroom manufacturing, ISO 13485 quality systems and customer validation requirements.
- Experience with multi-cavity precision LSR molds, insert molding, LSR overmolding or transferring processes into a new manufacturing site.
- Experience improving LSR yield and cycle time with automated demolding, and using Minitab or equivalent statistical software.
- Practical ownership of improvement actions and willingness to share process knowledge with technicians and production teams.
