0210 Pastoral Care Officer/Marine Parade MRT / Marine Terrace

Contract Period: 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2027. Option to extend for 12 months, from 1 January to 31 December 2028.
Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:
- Mondays to Fridays: 7:15am to 2:45pm, inclusive of a one-hour lunch break, unless otherwise required by the school.
- Additional hours may be required when students need support beyond the usual working hours.
- Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays, gazetted public holidays and school holidays, unless otherwise required by the school.
Requirements:
- At least a Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Education or a related discipline.
- Preferably two years of experience in primary school student well-being, pastoral care or behavioural support programmes, OR two years of exposure to counselling, mentoring or guiding primary school students with social-emotional needs.
- Empathy, interpersonal and active-listening skills, with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively with students aged 7 to 12.
- Ability to remain calm and patient when supporting students in distress; basic conflict-resolution and behaviour-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement.
Job Scopes: The Services required are set out as follows:
- Provide first-line and individual pastoral support for students who are anxious, distressed, withdrawn or emotionally overwhelmed, using active listening, restorative practices and de-escalation techniques.
- Build trusting relationships and encourage positive coping strategies, emotional regulation and resilience.
- Identify and monitor vulnerable or at-risk students through regular check-ins, tracking behaviour, attendance and well-being; maintain accurate confidential records of incidents, interventions and progress.
- Coordinate support with Year Heads, School Counsellors and the Discipline Mistress.
- Respond promptly to emotional breakdowns, conflicts or aggressive behaviour; prioritise student safety and provide immediate emotional support during crises.
- Plan, conduct or support social-emotional learning, peer-support and preventive programmes, including early intervention and activities that encourage peer connectedness.
- Communicate sensitively with parents or guardians when needed and coordinate with social-service or mental-health agencies for additional support.
