Research Software Engineer (m/f/d) for Image Data Analysis

Would you like to advance biomedical research with your software development? The Image Data Analysis Team at the Max Delbrück Center and at Helmholtz Imaging is looking for a Research Software Engineer to develop robust, intuitive software solutions for the analysis, processing, and visualization of complex image data. Look forward to interdisciplinary projects at the interface of research, data analysis, and software development.

The Image Data Analysis Team at the Max Delbrück Center and at Helmholtz Imaging develops open-source software and supports researchers in the analysis and processing of image data in the fields of health, environment, energy, as well as matter and spaceflight. In this position, you will accompany scientists along the entire imaging pipeline – from quality control and registration to quantification and visualization, as well as training, documentation, and community support.

Your tasks include, in particular: **

• Development and further development of user-friendly software solutions for the analysis, registration, visualization, and exploration of scientific image data.
• Advising and supporting researchers with methodological questions as well as with the implementation of reproducible scientific workflows.
• Working with large, heterogeneous image datasets from different scientific disciplines and across various scales.
• Co-designing documentation, training, and, if necessary, teaching offers to ensure sustainable knowledge transfer.
• Independent collaboration with scientific partners and coordination of cooperations, predominantly in an international and digital environment.
• Active participation in the further development of the scientific community through workshops, events, and professional exchange within the Helmholtz community and beyond.

You have sound knowledge in image processing, AI-based image analysis, and statistics, as well as experience with large datasets and scientific software development. You write reproducible, well-tested code, work in a solution-oriented manner, possess strong communication skills, and enjoy supporting researchers and scientific communities. A completed Master's degree or a PhD in computer science, a STEM subject, or a related quantitative field is required.

• Experience in handling different image datasets and image analytical workflows.
