Software Engineer (m/f/d) – Lifestyle Check & Wellabe Lab-Systems | Vienna / Munich

Data is generated daily in eight European markets: from our EAP counseling, from the Lifestyle Check – our on-site health check – and from our digital services. The Lifestyle Check runs on a real on-site PC that communicates with medical measuring devices, an Angular-based lab app for our staff, a Django backend for configurations and uploads, as well as a broader platform that transforms the results into reports and user-oriented health insights.
Your Job: You will take responsibility for the Lifestyle Check Lab-Service. The initial focus is on stabilizing and improving the lab stack – the Windows service, the Lab-Operator app, and the backend that manages device configurations and uploads. From there, you will shape the broader product: cleaner architecture, more reliable releases, better data quality, and smoother integrations with the backend service.
The job can be performed either from Vienna or from Munich.
Tasks Responsibility for the Lifestyle Check – Lab-Systems: Taking over and responsibility for the on-site Windows service that connects our medical measuring devices with the platform. It controls around 10 device families via Bluetooth, serial interfaces, TCP, and file exchange. Operation, maintenance, and further development of the device drivers, the local REST-API, the system tray status UI, firmware updates, and the Windows installer. Responsibility for the Lab-Operator web app, an Angular / Ionic / Electron application that runs on the lab PC and guides employees through login, packages, stations, appointments, and the checkup process. Management of the Django-REST backend for device configuration, authentication, and secure uploads as well as logs. Perspective for future growth: Driving refactoring, dependency updates, and reliability improvements throughout the entire Lifestyle Check stack. Integration into the broader Wellabe platform: the Laravel/PHP admin platform for master data and the Flask backend for Body-Age calculations and reporting. Improving observability: centralized logging, clearer error signals, and faster remote diagnosis, so that vague reports from the field become solvable. Maintenance and improvement of the CI/CD pipelines, build tools, and release workflows.
Desired Profile Must Haves: Windows engineering mindset – you feel comfortable with Windows services, installers, firewall rules, and the deployment tooling used to deliver and update our software. Experience with hardware device integration – serial interfaces, Bluetooth, TCP; you can read and understand a device protocol. Frontend knowledge – you can navigate, maintain, and extend an Angular/TypeScript codebase, and understand how an Ionic/Capacitor or Electron build chain works. Cloud and DevOps – GCP (Cloud Storage, Cloud Run/Scheduler), Docker, GitHub Actions. Python knowledge – you can navigate unfamiliar, legacy code and take responsibility for Flask and Django backends. Remote debugging from incomplete information – you can reconstruct what happened from logs, screenshots, and second-hand information without being able to reproduce the problem locally. Security awareness – patching, handling secrets, dependency management, GDPR in a health context. Willingness to travel to our locations in Munich and Vienna and enjoyment of working with medical hardware devices. Fluent German – you communicate with local teams and support staff at the lab locations in German-speaking areas. Good English skills – collaboration in an international team.
Nice to haves: PHP / Laravel basics, so you can help coordinate changes in our admin platform. Experience with health data or biomarker analysis – you understand the specifics of health data and can contribute to our data analysis activities. Statistical modeling / ML to support our Body-Age and health score calculations.
