Housing Options Manager

Marks Consulting Partners are currently recruiting for a Housing Options Officer to work with one of our Local Authority clients in Cambridgeshire.

This is a temporary role paying £30 per hour, responsible for providing housing advice and homelessness prevention support to customers who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, managing cases from initial assessment through to resolution.

What you will be doing:

• Managing a caseload of customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness
• Carrying out homelessness assessments in line with Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
• Completing Personalised Housing Plans and agreeing reasonable steps with customers
• Making decisions on eligibility, priority need, intentional homelessness and local connection
• Producing legally robust homelessness decisions and Section 184 decision letters
• Negotiating with landlords, letting agents and family members to prevent homelessness wherever possible
• Working closely with Temporary Accommodation, Allocations, Social Care and other internal services
• Identifying safeguarding concerns and making appropriate referrals

What you will need:

• Previous experience as a Housing Options Officer, Homelessness Officer or Housing Needs Officer within a Local Authority
• Strong knowledge of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
• Experience completing homelessness assessments, Personalised Housing Plans and statutory decisions including Section 184 letters
• Strong interviewing, negotiation and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage a busy caseload and meet statutory deadlines
• Experience using systems such as Jigsaw, Locata, NEC or Northgate would be advantageous
