Marine Machinery Mechanic (Open to both U.S. Citizens and Federal Employees)
This position is located in Benicia, California, at Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet, Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Sealift, Office of the Associate Administrator for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD). This position is established to perform a wide variety of mechanical services for vessels and craft in the National Defense Reserve Fleet. Work is accomplished on ships within the National Defense Reserve Fleet.
Major duties
The Marine Machinery Mechanic: Troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, and tests assorted marine engines. Requisitions parts and services and recommendations for contractual repairs to fleet craft. Safely operates mechanical systems aboard fleet craft and ships in the anchorage. The ideal candidate for this position performs direct support/general support maintenance in the overhaul of ships assigned to the Ready Reserve Force. Determines the exact nature and extent of repairs, adjustments, and overhaul necessary. Ability to communicate with workers being lead, pass on instructions, relay job assignments for recurring and special assignments, and ability to train employees. CURRENT OR FORMER FEDERAL APPLICANTS: You must submit SF-50(s) that verify your highest competitive grade, full performance level, and federal applicant eligibility. To prove you meet the 52-week time-in-grade requirement for the highest grade level requested, you must submit SF-50 documentation showing a sequential 52-week period. Box 4 of the SF-50 must show an effective date at least 52 weeks prior to the job announcement closing date. Do not submit an award SF-50 or a current-year pay adjustment SF-50, as these generally do not verify grade, eligibility, or the full 52-week requirement. Qualifications
Qualifications for the position are based on the training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WG-11, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: Ability to perform machinery maintenance and repairs aboard fleet craft including tugs, crane barges, utility boats, patrol boats and transportation craft. Ability to operate, rotate or move over by hand or motive power all mechanical systems associated with fleet craft or aboard ships. Knowledge and adherence to safety programs and policies, environmental laws, and other regulations.
