Workshop Manager

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Workshop Manager assumes full ownership and accountability for the Heavy Steel CNC Fabrication Workshop, including strategic planning, operational excellence, people management, and full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility. The Workshop Manager will drive efficiency, quality, safety, and profitability of the workshop as a standalone business unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Take full end-to-end responsibility for the management of the CNC heavy steel fabrication workshop (CNC cutting, drilling, plasma, beam line, bending, rolling, fitting, welding, blasting & painting).
• Develop and execute detailed production plans, schedules, and capacity planning based on confirmed orders, forecasts, and project priorities.
• Ensure optimal utilization of all CNC machines, overhead cranes, and fabrication bays.
• Oversee interpretation of engineering drawings, nesting, CNC programming, and fabrication execution.
• Ensure on-time, on-budget, and on-quality delivery of all fabricated products.
• Own the full P&L of the workshop* - responsible for revenue, costs, margins, and overall profitability.
• Prepare annual workshop budget, operating costs, and CAPEX requirements.
• Develop competitive pricing, quotations, and cost estimates for fabrication jobs in collaboration with the Commercial/Estimation team.
• Ensure all fabrication is compliant with approved drawings, ITPs, welding procedures, and international codes.
• Work closely with QA/QC to enforce quality controls, inspections, and NDT.

REQUIREMENTS:

• BSc. Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or HND in relevant field.
• Minimum 10 years experience in heavy steel fabrication, with at least 5 years managing a CNC fabrication workshop.
• Proven experience managing CNC machines - CNC Beam Drill Line, CNC Plasma/Oxy Cutting, CNC Plate Drilling, CNC Bending/Rolling.
• Demonstrable experience with P&L management, budgeting, costing, and commercial management of a workshop.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication estimation, steel codes, welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, SAW).
• Experience in Mining, Oil & Gas, or heavy structural fabrication is highly preferred.
