Getting products specified and approved before the project reaches the purchasing stage. Specification Engineer – Geosynthetics & Technical Projects

Drive project sales by securing product specifications, technical approvals and vendor registrations with consultants, engineering offices, developers, contractors, government authorities and infrastructure project stakeholders. The Specification Engineer is responsible for influencing projects at the design and tender stage, ensuring products are technically accepted and included in BOQs, specifications and approved vendor lists.

  1. Consultant & designer relationships
  • Build relationships with civil consultants, geotechnical engineers, infrastructure designers and project management consultants.
  • Conduct regular consultant visits and technical presentations.
  • Introduce geotextile and relevant technical textile solutions.
  • Understand upcoming projects before tender issuance.
  • Become the technical point of contact between consultants and the company.
  1. Product specification
  • Work with consultants to specify the correct product according to application and project requirements.
  • Prepare technical specifications for inclusion in tender documents.
  • Match company's products against required ASTM, EN, ISO and AASHTO standards.
  • Recommend appropriate GSM, tensile strength, puncture resistance, permeability, opening size and other required characteristics.
  • Prepare technical comparison/substitution documents against competing products.
  1. Technical submittals & approvals
  • Prepare and follow up:
  • Technical data sheets
  • Compliance statements
  • Material submittals
  • Test certificates
  • Method statements where required
  • Product samples
  • Technical comparison sheets
  • Consultant approval packages
  • Follow each submission until approved/rejected/revised.
  • Maintain a database of every approval the company receives.
  1. Vendor registration
  • Register with consultants, developers, contractors and relevant authorities.
  • Get us included on Approved Vendor Lists (AVL).
  • Maintain required certificates and documentation.
  • Track registration renewals and missing documentation.
  1. Project pipeline development

The engineer should not simply wait for Sales to give them projects. They should actively identify: Project → Consultant → Designer → Main Contractor → Subcontractor → Tender date → Required product → Quantity → Specification → Approval status → Sales opportunity. Each project should then be entered into CRM.

  1. Tender & BOQ support
  • Review BOQs and technical specifications.
  • Identify tenders where products can be proposed.
  • Detect specifications written around competitors and determine whether we can technically comply.
  • Prepare technical deviations where necessary.
  • Support Sales in preparing technically compliant quotations.
  1. Support Project Sales

The Specification Engineer should not replace the salesman.
