QUANTITY: 2 JOB TYPE: CONTRACT Job Information Field Detail Job Title Dewatering Pump Technician Organisation MAC Engineering Location Obuasi-KMS Job Type Contract Skill Type Skilled Duration of the Contract 1 year-Subject to Renewal Performance Criteria Main Purpose (Role): The Dewatering Pump Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of underground and surface dewatering pumps and their associated columns, valves, pipework and settler dam equipment. The role ensures the safe, reliable and continuous removal of water from the mine by maximising pump availability, minimising unplanned downtime and ensuring compliance with maintenance standards, statutory regulations and mine safety procedures. Key Performance Area’s (Responsibilities): Install, level, align, couple and commission multistage centrifugal, submersible and positive-displacement dewatering pumps in accordance with drawings and manufacturer instructions.Strip, inspect and overhaul dewatering pumps, including impellers, wear rings, shafts, sleeves, bearings, mechanical seals and gland packing, and set clearances to specification.Inspect, maintain and repair pump columns, discharge pipework, flanges, non-return and isolation valves, and rectify leaks and blockages.Diagnose and correct pump problems such as cavitation, loss of duty, seal leakage, overheating, excessive vibration and bearing failure, addressing the root cause.Monitor pump performance, including suction and discharge pressures, flow, motor current, bearing temperature and vibration, and act on deviations.Carry out preventive maintenance and lubrication of pumps, motors, couplings and drive systems in accordance with the maintenance schedule.Support settler dam and sump maintenance activities, including desilting operations, screens, penstocks and associated mechanical equipment.Attend breakdowns promptly, support shutdown maintenance and equipment overhauls, and complete work orders, maintenance records and shift handover documentation accurately. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, OR Technician Part III Certificate (Mechanical) with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in mining, heavy industrial or process plant operations. Essential / Advantageous Essential MINCOM certification, permit-to-work system training, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) training, working at heights training, confined space entry training, rigging and slinging competency, and first aid certification are highly desirable. Essential Technical Competencies Advanced proficiency in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and overhaul of dewatering pump systems, including multistage centrifugal, submersible and positive-displacement pumps, pump columns and pipework, isolation and non-return valves, mechanical seals, bearings, couplings and drive systems. Demonstrated competence in shaft alignment, precision measurement, lubrication practice, mechanical fault diagnosis, preventive and breakdown maintenance, and safe maintenance practices within a mining environment. Memberships Experience Professional Membership Required Essential / Advantageous N/A Essential Advantageous Job Related Experience Required Time Span Essential / Advantageous Minimum of 3–5 years of practical experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and overhaul of dewatering pumps, pump columns, valves and associated mechanical equipment. Experience with mechanical seals, shaft alignment, underground dewatering systems, settler dams, preventive maintenance and shutdown maintenance within a mining or heavy industrial environment is required.
