JOB TYPE: CONTRACT Job Information QUANTITY: 1 Field Detail Job Title Dewatering Pump Operator Organisation MAC Engineering Location Obuasi-KMS Job Type Contract Skill Type Semi-Skilled Duration of the Contract 1 year-Subject to Renewal Performance Criteria Main Purpose (Role): The Dewatering Pump Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and monitoring of dewatering pumps, settler dams, sumps and associated equipment. The role ensures continuous removal of water from the mine by starting, stopping and monitoring pumps in accordance with the operating schedule, recording operating parameters, carrying out first-line checks, and promptly reporting abnormalities to the Supervisor and maintenance team. Key Performance Area’s (Responsibilities): Start, stop and change over dewatering pumps in accordance with the approved operating schedule and instructions from the Supervisor. Prime, vent and place pumps into service safely, and confirm correct rotation, duty and stable operation after start-up. Monitor and record operating parameters at the required frequency, including suction and discharge pressures, flow, motor current, bearing and motor temperatures and running hours. Monitor sump, settler dam and dam water levels and operate pumps to maintain levels within the required limits. Carry out routine first-line checks and attention, including greasing, oil level checks, gland adjustment and cleaning of the pump station and its surroundings. Inspect for leaks, unusual noise, vibration, overheating and other abnormal conditions, and report defects promptly for maintenance attention. Complete pump logsheets, shift reports and handover documentation accurately and legibly, and hand over the station in a safe and clean condition. Comply at all times with permit-to-work, isolation, lock-out/tag-out and mine safety procedures, and report all incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions immediately. Qualifications WASSCE/SSSCE or an equivalent secondary qualification with a minimum of 3 years of practical pump operating experience, OR a Craft/Technician Certificate in a mechanical or plant-related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in mining, heavy industrial or process plant operations. Essential / Advantageous Essential MINCOM certification, permit-to-work system training, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) awareness training, confined space awareness training and first aid certification are highly desirable. Essential Technical Competencies Proficiency in the safe operation and monitoring of dewatering pumps, pump stations, sumps and settler dams, including start-up and shutdown procedures, priming and venting, changeover of duty and standby pumps, monitoring of pressures, flows, temperatures and water levels, routine first-line attention and greasing, accurate logsheet recording, and the early identification and reporting of abnormal operating conditions within a mining environment. Memberships Experience Professional Membership Required Essential / Advantageous N/A Essential Advantageous Job Related Experience Required Time Span Essential / Advantageous Minimum of 2–3 years of practical experience in the operation and monitoring of dewatering pumps, pump stations and settler dams, or comparable rotating plant, within a mining or heavy industrial operation. Experience in reading and recording operating parameters, routine first-line attention and working under a permit-to-work system is required.
