How will you contribute?

You will support the operation and continuous improvement of LIST's Linux infrastructure (including user endpoints and IT services), ensuring reliable, secure and efficient environments for research and organisational activities. Working within the IT Infrastructure team, you will:

  • Administer and maintain Linux servers and endpoints, including configuration, monitoring, patching, troubleshooting and lifecycle management.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, availability, capacity, performance and security, and respond to incidents and service requests.
  • Support endpoint-security operations, including hardening, antivirus, encryption, access control, compliance and vulnerability remediation.
  • Contribute to incident, problem, change and release management in line with established IT service-management practices.
  • Automate operational activities using tools such as Ansible or plain scripting, and contribute to standardisation through deployment playbooks and configuration-management tools such as ManageEngine Endpoint Central.
  • Support backup, recovery, disaster-recovery and business-continuity procedures.
  • Collaborate with Information Security, Applications, Development, IT Operations, researchers and other stakeholders to ensure stable, secure and compatible services.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including infrastructure configurations, operational procedures, troubleshooting guidance and knowledge articles.
  • Contribute to IT asset, software and configuration-management activities, where applicable.
  • Follow emerging technologies and propose improvements to infrastructure reliability, security, efficiency and user experience.

Additional infrastructure responsibilities. Under the guidance of IT Infrastructure colleagues, you will also support the administration, monitoring and maintenance of:

  • User accounts, access rights, authentication and permissions, in accordance with internal policies.
  • Virtualised and containerised environments using technologies such as VMware, Proxmox, Docker, Podman and Kubernetes.
  • Compute, storage, backup and high-performance-computing environments supporting research and organisational workloads.
  • Environments within public cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Scaleway.

Project delivery and activity management

In addition to day-to-day engineering and operational support, you will contribute to IT and infrastructure projects delivered through internal initiatives and in collaboration with external partners or clients. You will manage your activities in accordance with LIST's project-management methodology by planning and prioritising tasks, estimating effort, tracking progress, managing dependencies and risks, coordinating stakeholders and delivering agreed outcomes. Depending on the assignment, you may also coordinate or manage IT or LIST-level projects involving multidisciplinary teams.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field experience

Experience and skills

  • 6–7 years of professional experience in Linux system administration, infrastructure operations or a comparable IT environment.
  • Strong practical experience administering Linux servers and endpoints, including system configuration, performance monitoring, patch management, troubleshooting and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, configuration-management tools such as Ansible or Puppet, and scripting for operational tasks.
  • Experience with endpoint management, software deployment and configuration-management tools such as ManageEngine Endpoint Central is an advantage.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure-security practices, including system hardening, access control, vulnerability remediation, encryption, endpoint protection and data protection.
  • Experience monitoring infrastructure availability, capacity and performance, and responding to incidents and service requests.
  • Familiarity with IT service-management practices, including incident, problem, change, release, backup, recovery and business-continuity management.
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls and secure remote access.
  • Experience documenting infrastructure configurations, operational procedures, troubleshooting guidance and support processes.
  • Experience with virtualisation, containerisation, compute, storage, backup, HPC, cloud or AI/ML infrastructure is considered an asset, particularly in research, scientific, engineering or data-intensive environments.
  • Ability to work in accordance with internal IT policies, security requirements and operational standards.
  • Experience using project-management and collaboration tools such as Asana, Jira, Microsoft Planner or equivalent.

Language skills

  • Fluency in English (Luxembourgish, German and especially French are considered as an asset), both oral and written.

This position offers a gross monthly salary between EUR 6.724 and EUR 8.781, paid over 13 months (EUR 87.412 - EUR 114.153 annually) based on full-time employment. The final salary offer within this range will be determined based on the candidate's overall profile, qualifications and professional experience.

For part-time employment, the salary is adjusted pro rata.
