Description of the workplace
The position is located at the Department of Human Geography and Economic Geography and is linked to SESAC – Swedish Competence Centre for Satellite Enabled Social Science Analytics. SESAC is funded by the Swedish Space Agency and is operated by Lund University together with Chalmers, Linköping University, and Karlstad University. The center's mission is to make satellite data and Earth observation useful for social science research – within sustainability, public health, urbanization, population development, and crisis preparedness – and to build bridges between academia, authorities, industry, and civil society.
You will work in a small and interdisciplinary environment where human geographers, physical geographers, remote sensing analysts, and computer scientists work side by side, and where the operations span four academic institutions. The role is the center's hub: you hold together the practical and the administrative, and work closely with the center's director and Principal Investigators (PI). Your physical location will be in Lund.

Tasks and responsibilities
The position combines coordination of the center's activities with qualified technical work with geodata. You will have particular responsibility for planning, structuring, and following up on SESAC's activities, in close cooperation with the PI.
Your tasks will include:
plan and implement the center's activities – conferences, workshops, courses, webinars, and hackathons – from invitations, registrations, and logistics to budget, implementation, and follow-up coordinate cooperation between the four academic institutions: call meetings, prepare agendas and supporting documents, document decisions, and follow up on their implementation structure the center's ongoing work with schedules, project overviews, and deadlines, as well as contribute to reporting to the funder support the PI in daily operations with supporting documents, presentations, and compilations be responsible for parts of the center's external communication, e.g., web, newsletters, and social media be the contact person for partners, guest researchers, and visitors compile, process, and quality-assure satellite and geodata, as well as produce maps and visualizations contribute to the documentation of data, code, and workflows so that they become open and reusable produce and maintain educational and demonstration material for the center's courses and webinars
The position includes travel within Sweden and occasional travel abroad.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
master's degree in human geography, physical geography, GIS/remote sensing, data science, a social science subject with a quantitative focus, or another subject relevant to the position documented experience in independently planning and implementing activities such as conferences, workshops, courses, or seminars experience in structuring and coordinating work in projects with multiple partners, including scheduling, documentation, and follow-up good knowledge of GIS and/or remote sensing, e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, or Google Earth Engine experience in programming in Python and/or R for data processing and analysis very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English good collaborative skills, as well as the ability to work independently, structured, and meticulously, and to take initiative

Meritorious for the position are:
experience working in a university or research environment, e.g., research administration or project finance experience with externally funded research projects and reporting to funders experience working with Copernicus/Sentinel, Landsat, or high-resolution satellite data experience with machine learning or AI applied to image data experience with version control with Git, reproducible workflows, and cloud-based data processing experience in scientific communication, web publishing, or editing for newsletters and social media experience of international collaborations driver's license B
Other
The position is a fixed-term employment at 100 percent for one year, with commencement as soon as possible or by agreement. Interviews are planned to be conducted at our premises in Lund during week 39/40.
