Assistant Researcher in Cancer Biology and Regenerative Biology

Description of the workplace
The research group Regenerative Immunology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, is currently conducting research on innate mechanisms of tumor resistance in axolotls and how these mechanisms are linked to their regenerative capacity. Currently, the research group is working to understand the limits of axolotl tumor resistance as well as the common and differing mechanisms between regenerative tissue and tumor tissue. The research group is led by Associate Professor Nicholas Leigh and additionally consists of seven other employees. The group is international and includes students, postdocs, and technical staff. We are now seeking a driven and experienced researcher in cancer biology and regenerative biology who can contribute to the project. Tasks and responsibilities
The research assignment involves you independently, under the guidance of the project leader, conducting analyses of regenerative processes and responses to genotoxic stress. The work includes the care of axolotls, bioinformatics, as well as common molecular biology techniques. The tasks also include oral presentations, preparation of figures, writing manuscripts, and supervision of junior researchers.
Qualifications
- PhD in cancer biology, regenerative biology, molecular biology, or equivalent.
- Experience in research on, handling of, and care of salamanders.
- Experience in analyzing morphological events in connection with regeneration as well as working with emerging model organisms.
- Ability to conduct independent research at an advanced level, including previous experience in independently leading a research project.
- Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English.
- Good analytical ability, drive, and good collaborative skills.
Meritorious qualifications for the position are:
- Experience in generating knockout and/or transgenic salamander lines.
- Previous experience of research within similar projects.

The employment is fixed-term according to SÄVA for 12 months at full-time, with commencement as soon as possible or by agreement.
