BUILDING PAINTER

Job Summary

Read blueprints and prepare surfaces for painting by scraping and filling cracks. Mix and apply paint and finishes using appropriate tools. Calculate costs, negotiate prices, and follow health and safety precautions. Work flexible hours including shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and instructions to assess surface conditions and determine necessary painting work
• Prepare work sites by building scaffolding and covering fixtures to ensure safety and cleanliness
• Prepare walls and surfaces by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint to create a smooth base
• Fill cracks and holes with suitable materials such as plaster to ensure surface integrity
• Mix paint and materials to achieve the correct color and texture for each project
• Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes accurately using brushes, caulking guns, and other tools
• Calculate project costs and negotiate prices with clients to meet budget requirements
• Follow all health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment
• Demonstrate manual dexterity and maintain balance when working on scaffolding and ladders

Required competencies and certifications

• Proven experience as a painter
• Excellent knowledge of painting materials, including selection, mixing, and application
• Solid knowledge of commercial and construction painting techniques
• Aptitude in using painting tools such as brushes and caulking guns
• Ability to work flexible hours including night/day shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Minimum one year of painting experience
• Conscientiousness with great attention to detail
