Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München is one of the leading universities in Europe with a tradition of over 500 years. It stands for demanding academic training and outstanding research.

Institution: Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Chair of Molecular Animal Breeding – Center for innovative Medical Models (CiMM) Remuneration: TV-L E13 Scope: Part-time (65%) Start date: At the earliest possible date

This is us:

The SFB 1774 investigates how central metabolic "promoter organs" – adipose tissue, bone marrow, intestine, and liver – communicate with the cardiovascular system and thereby influence the transition from health through prediabetes and type 2 diabetes to cardiovascular diseases. By combining comprehensively characterized patient cohorts with state-of-the-art multi-omics technologies, innovative imaging methods, as well as methods of data science and Artificial Intelligence, the mechanisms of cardiometabolic diseases are to be decoded and new approaches for precision medicine at the interface of diabetology and cardiology are to be developed.

The Center for innovative Medical Models (CiMM) develops genetically tailored pigs as models for metabolic research as well as for rare monogenic diseases, in order to accelerate progress in translational medicine, such as improving the predictability of efficacy and safety of new therapies. Another focus is pig models for xenotransplantation to counteract the current shortage of human organs available for transplantation.

As part of the joint Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1774 "Cardio-Diabetes Crosstalk (CARDDIAB)", funded by the Graduate School (Integrated Research Training Group, iRTG) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), we are looking for reinforcement for our team at the earliest possible date.

We are looking for you:

PhD Student (m/f/d)

These are your tasks:

You will work on an interdisciplinary research project (A07) from basic and translational research. The focus is on organ-to-organ communication, metabolic regulation, inflammatory processes, cellular energy metabolism, and cardiovascular complications of diabetes in a highly cooperative and international research environment.

This is you:

You have a Master's degree, a diploma, or an equivalent university degree with very good academic achievements in a relevant field, such as (veterinary) medicine, life sciences, molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, biomedicine, or related disciplines. Initial research experience as well as a strong interest in interdisciplinary biomedical research are an advantage. Very good written and spoken English skills are required. We also expect:
