Editorial Copywriter
Responsibilities:
- Website content audit and rewrite
Review our existing website content end to end for tone, clarity, accuracy and consistency.
Rewrite pages to bring them in line with British English conventions and a single, coherent editorial voice.
Identify gaps, outdated claims or inconsistent terminology across the site.
- Editorial guidelines
Author and own a set of internal editorial guidelines covering tone of voice, structural conventions, terminology (including approved medical and brand terms), and British English usage (spelling, grammar, punctuation and idiom).
Keep the guidelines current as our services, tone and audience expectations evolve.
- Editorial approval of outgoing content
Work alongside the marketing team as the editorial gatekeeper for all outgoing content; emails, social posts, campaigns and other patient-facing communications.
Review and approve (or send back for revision) content against the guidelines before it goes live, balancing marketing's priorities with editorial standards.
- Medical article library (mid–long term)
Lead the planning and writing of a forthcoming library of medical articles for patients.
Ensure content is clinically sound, appropriately sourced, accessible to a lay UK readership, and consistent with our editorial guidelines.
Requirements:
Background in medical copywriting or medical journalism, with a portfolio demonstrating patient-facing or consumer health writing.
Fluent, native-level British English, with genuine command of UK register, idiom and spelling conventions.
Real familiarity with the UK market and UK patient expectations; how UK patients are typically communicated with by healthcare providers, and what reads as trustworthy versus off-putting in that context.
Strong editorial judgement: able to set and defend a style, and to say no to content that doesn't meet it.
Comfortable working both as a hands-on writer and as an approver/editor of others' work.
Experience translating clinical or scientific information for a general audience.
Experience building editorial guidelines or a style guide from scratch.
Familiarity with the private healthcare or medical tourism sector.
