Purpose of the job / project Play a key role in the improvement and innovation of IT solutions within a dynamic agile team delivering high-quality services across key data domains. Contribute to major European and national initiatives, including HDAB2-LU, supporting the establishment of the Luxembourg Health Data Access Body and enabling secure, compliant, and efficient access to health data. Support the delivery of strategic national and European initiatives focused on secure data sharing, health and research data ecosystems, and trustworthy AI adoption. Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, compliant, and impactful digital solutions in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will independently design, implement, deliver and maintain applications and platform services, integrating new solutions with LNDS’s existing data-centric infrastructures. You will take ownership of defined technical areas, translating requirements into reliable, secure and maintainable solutions within agreed architectural and organisational standards. You will actively identify and deliver opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation, focusing on: Automating the software development lifecycle.

Improving internal data flows, tooling and platform capabilities.

Developing and supporting technical environments for data processing, analytics and AI-related experimentation.

You will be part of the Technology team, working closely with data specialists, AI experts and governance teams across different projects. You will contribute to high-impact European initiatives in AI, data governance and digital public infrastructure, exercising sound judgment about when to act independently, seek specialist input or escalate risks.

What you will do Develop, deliver and maintain quality software

Contribute to application design and integration with existing data-centric infrastructures

Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation, automating parts of the software development process, internal data flows, and internal tooling

Collaborate within the agile software development team, delivering and maintaining quality software as required by the Platform

Actively participate in the entire software lifecycle process, including requirements gathering, user story creation, development, continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipeline setup, testing, and maintenance

Develop and implement good software development practices, including consistent coding style, quality, and testing

Incorporate and promote security and privacy by design practices into your work

Assist in technical analysis and design of software solutions

Design and provide excellent issue tracking and customer support with the team

Write and maintain comprehensive documentation

Offer technical expertise to external parties and represent LNDS in meetings, conferences, and gatherings with stakeholders

Support more junior colleagues

Stay up to date with evolving software technologies

Who you are MSc in a scientific, technological, or engineering discipline related to computer science, information technology, or computing

5 to 10 years of relevant experience in programming, deployment, and maintenance of applications

Experience taking a feature, service or application from requirements through implementation, deployment and ongoing support

Experience in data-related or research-oriented environments is considered an asset

Technical competencies Proficiency in Python or Node.js, with the ability to independently develop, test and maintain production software. Other languages are considered a plus

Solid knowledge of backend development, including API design, services, integrations and error handling

Frontend experience with React and Next.js is considered an asset

Practical experience building, running and troubleshooting containerised applications using Docker or Podman

Working knowledge of authentication and identity technologies, with experience integrating applications using relevant protocols or solutions such as OIDC, SAML, LDAP/AD or Keycloak

Solid knowledge of SQL databases, including data modelling and query development; working knowledge of NoSQL technologies

Working knowledge of cloud environments and application deployment, configuration and monitoring

Practical experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines

Confidence working independently in Linux and Git-based development environments

Ability to assess technical trade-offs involving maintainability, reliability, performance, security and delivery effort
