Technical Accounting Specialist, Treaty Reinsurance

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management

  • Manage claims end-to-end, including issuing claim and cash calls in accordance with treaty terms, monitoring service levels and ensuring timely reporting of major losses.
  • Perform quality checks on claims data and reporting, identifying and resolving discrepancies or contract-related issues.
  • Analyse claims information, maintain and update outstanding reserves, and support claims negotiation and settlement activities.
  • Escalate complex or high-value claims matters appropriately and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on technical issues.

Premium & Treaty Accounting

  • Manage new and renewal treaty contracts, reviewing contractual terms and accounting structures to ensure accurate revenue scheduling.
  • Process premiums, accounts and treaty adjustments, including sliding-scale commissions, profit commissions and other contractual adjustments, within agreed timelines.
  • Review and validate treaty accounting information to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with contractual terms.
  • Prepare processing instructions for outsourced partners and work closely with Compliance and Legal teams to obtain the necessary approvals for third-party arrangements.

Stakeholder & Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Sales and other internal teams on treaty accounting and operational matters.
  • Provide updates to Sales and relevant stakeholders on renewals, reporting issues, major claims and other key developments.
  • Support team members during periods of absence and contribute to onboarding and knowledge transfer for new hires.
  • Prepare relevant statistics and reports and provide operational support during peak periods.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Participate in process improvement, system testing and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve turnaround times and strengthen service standards.
  • Keep abreast of technical accounting practices, systems and industry developments, and share knowledge with the wider team.

Business & Control

  • Monitor revenue against budgets and support accurate financial and operational reporting.
  • Review electronic files and documentation to ensure data integrity, completeness and audit readiness.
  • Ensure processes are performed in accordance with internal controls, audit requirements and relevant policies.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Strong technical accounting experience within Treaty Reinsurance.
  • Good understanding of treaty accounting, premium processing, claims, reserves and contractual adjustments.
  • Experience handling treaty documentation, accounting structures and complex contractual terms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Sales and external partners.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, collaborative and solutions-oriented, with an interest in process improvement and technology.
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in Accounting, Finance, Insurance or a related discipline would be advantageous.
