We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Payroll Administrator to manage and oversee payroll processes for our organisation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in payroll administration, strong knowledge of payroll legislation, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with relevant laws, and supporting payroll-related inquiries.

Competencies / Skills / Knowledge / Experience

Proven payroll knowledge and an in-depth understanding of relevant HMRC legislation Payroll Technician Certificate qualification (or equivalent) Advanced user of Excel application Confident user of Word and Outlook Experience in and knowledge of Payroll software e.g. Zellis Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to work independently or as a member of a team

What the role includes

Responsibility for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time in line with agreed deadlines. To process UK payroll runs from beginning to end in accordance with current legislation, policies and processes, and timelines, while ensuring that an appropriately authorised person approves all payroll transactions Collate change data, completing input sheets, and making sure peer checks are carried out Ensure that all payroll-related information, including increases and deductions are calculated, recorded and processed accurately and promptly in accordance with the relevant legislation/guidelines Ensure that payroll reports are created and distributed to the business and third parties as necessary Ensure all key controls are adhered to as specified in the Payroll Process Guide, and ensure all supporting payroll documentation is correctly filed at close of each payroll run Report errors to the Payroll Manager and correct promptly Be first point of contact for all employee pay and benefit queries and investigate, resolve or escalate the matters as required in a timely manner. Maintain confidentiality and make sure sensitive files are protected appropriately Make ad-hoc payroll payments as required, Respond professionally to queries from HR Business Partners and staff at all levels, communicating clearly and effectively, and providing high-quality advice on payroll-related matters Inform others of the payroll cut-off dates and ensure payroll deadlines are met Maintain up to date knowledge of Payroll legislation and internal policies Prepare and submit PAYE, NI, and other statutory deductions, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations Support the Payroll Manager with regular audit checks and collating data for any internal or external check
