The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology is responsible for a large number of educational programs at basic and advanced levels within computer science, software engineering, and media technology. Currently, more than 60 people work at the department, and there are strong connections to other departments at Linnéuniversitetet through interdisciplinary education and research.
The advertised position will be linked to the research group for information visualization (ISOVIS) led by Professor Andreas Kerren (see http://cs.lnu.se/isovis/). The group is part of the national research infrastructure InfraVis (https://infravis.se) and, through this advertisement, is recruiting a research engineer in information visualization (hereafter called "InfraVis application expert") to InfraVis.
Description of InfraVis
InfraVis is a national research infrastructure funded by Vetenskapsrådet to support scientific progress through the application of state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization techniques. The goal of InfraVis is to significantly improve support for data analysis, meet new challenges involving large and complex data, and create competitive advantages for Swedish researchers. The infrastructure consists of visualization experts working with various software solutions and access to advanced visualization environments. Users of InfraVis will be offered assistance through a national helpdesk with fast response times, as well as in-depth projects addressing specific data and software challenges. InfraVis will also provide software solutions based on developments in interconnected research groups, curation of international software and best practices, as well as user training in the form of courses, seminars, and online documentation. To build an infrastructure with national coverage, nine visualization environments in Sweden have been interconnected in a node structure. The nodes are located near research environments within visualization, enabling direct access to the research front as well as state-of-the-art facilities.
Job Description:
InfraVis application experts will be responsible for support and development within the visualization of scientific data. General tasks for the application expert include advanced user support, selection of suitable software, development of visualization tools, and training of user groups from many different research areas. See the description of InfraVis above. Therefore, the main task is to provide services within the framework of the infrastructure.
We offer collaboration in a national infrastructure with a large group of other InfraVis experts anchored at nine different universities. InfraVis application experts are encouraged to continue developing their professional and technical skills, both to stay current within their own scientific field, but also to broaden their knowledge and skills in other subjects.

You must be proficient in professional English, both spoken and written.
Meritorious: Good knowledge of Swedish is meritorious, but not a requirement. It is meritorious if you have work experience from a visualization environment. We also consider experience from other research areas, such as life sciences, digital humanities, social sciences, or machine learning, as meritorious in our assessment.
Very good programming skills (Java, JavaScript/HTML5, Python, WebGL/OpenGL), experience in developing web-based visualization tools, experience with commercial visual analysis environments (Tableau, Power BI, etc.), as well as a solid education in data mining or machine learning are highly preferred.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability. Great importance will be placed on the ability to work independently and structured, good initiative and the ability to make priorities, accuracy and service-mindedness, the ability to drive and complete tasks within given timeframes, flexibility, and very good collaborative skills.
