We are now seeking a postdoc in security and privacy for artificial intelligence (AI) in real-time and socio-critical systems. The employment is part of Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) at Linköpings universitet and is positioned at the interface between cybersecurity and AI, with a particular focus on security and privacy for AI-based real-time, networked, and safety-critical systems.

Your duties

The research will investigate how AI can be designed, implemented, and used in a secure and reliable manner in environments with high requirements for real-time performance, robustness, security, and privacy.

You will work with challenges at the interface between cybersecurity and AI, including security in AI and machine learning systems, adversarial attacks, privacy-preserving machine learning, secure and distributed learning, detection and handling of attacks against AI-based systems, as well as the robustness of AI systems operating in dynamic environments and resource-constrained environments. The research will also consider the interplay between AI security and the underlying communication and computing infrastructure. Depending on the research direction, application areas may include aviation and other socio-critical infrastructure, where networked systems must function securely and reliably with real-time requirements. Solid research experience in cybersecurity, especially in security in communication networks, distributed systems, real-time systems, or socio-critical infrastructure, is therefore highly relevant for the position.

As a postdoc, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in the duties, however, at most one-fifth of the working time.

Your qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a postdoc, you must have completed a doctoral degree or hold a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree. Your degree must be completed no later than when the employment decision is made.

It is meritorious if your degree was completed no more than three years before the last application date for this employment. If there are special reasons, it may be considered if the doctoral degree was completed earlier, for example, due to different types of statutory leave.

We are seeking candidates who have a doctoral degree in computer science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, or a related field. You must have very good research experience in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence/machine learning, networked systems, or a related field. You must have a strong publication profile in relevant areas such as cybersecurity, AI/ML, network security, distributed systems, real-time systems, or related areas, with publications in high-quality scientific journals and internationally competitive conferences. Knowledge of and research experience in AI/ML security, including adversarial machine learning, secure or privacy-preserving machine learning, or security in distributed AI systems, is meritorious. Experience with aviation data, communication networks in aviation, or other safety- or mission-critical applications is a special merit.

Experience in supervising or co-supervising master's level theses, as well as experience in contributing to the development of research applications or research collaborations, is meritorious.

Very good proficiency in English, both oral and written, is a requirement. You must be able to work independently and take responsibility for your research, while also being able to collaborate effectively with researchers from different disciplines and with different backgrounds. We particularly value scientific curiosity, analytical ability, initiative, as well as the ability to formulate and drive new research questions.

About the employment

The employment is time-limited to two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum employment period of three years. The employment as a postdoc is full-time.
