About the job

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), especially 4D flow-MRI, enables detailed quantification of cardiovascular hemodynamics through the measurement of blood flow in the heart and vessels. By combining such data with physiologically based mathematical models, patient-specific digital twins can be developed to improve the understanding of cardiovascular diseases and their treatment.

As a research engineer, you will participate in the development of the next generation of patient-specific digital twins for cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment, with a particular focus on hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. The work involves advanced processing and analysis of 4D flow-MRI data as well as integrating image-based measurements with mathematical models of cardiovascular physiology.

The tasks include the development and implementation of methods for analysis and quality control of 4D flow-MRI data, development and validation of patient-specific mathematical models and digital twins, and quantification of hemodynamic parameters and biomarkers related to heart function, vascular function, and blood pressure regulation. The tasks also include collecting longitudinal clinical data from patients before and after treatment and scientific writing and publishing of research results in international journals.

The research is conducted in close collaboration between experts in medical image analysis, MRI physics, cardiology, mathematics, and systems biology. The work takes place within established research environments at CMIV and Linköpings universitet as well as in collaboration with national and international research partners.
