Java with ETL and Seeburger

Your tasks

We expect the individual to participate in all parts of the development life cycle including analysis, testing and production support. We do not have separate teams, and these activities are all part of the role.

• Translate Group and Wholesale strategy into well-designed technical solutions, contributing to technical direction and ensuring delivery meets business needs for growth, management, and control.
• Take ownership of design and development across the full software lifecycle, producing high-quality, secure, and maintainable code in line with HSBC standards and engineering best practices.
• Support delivery planning and execution within Agile and/or Waterfall teams, collaborating closely with developers, testers, analysts, and architects to deliver agreed outcomes.
• Proactively identify and reduce technical debt, improving code quality, performance, resilience, and reusability; contribute to technical evolution and digital transformation initiatives.
• Work with business stakeholders, SMEs, and Solution Architects (locally and globally) to clarify requirements, shape solutions, and ensure alignment to target architecture.
• Provide hands-on guidance and informal mentoring to junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback.
• Contribute to DevOps ways of working, including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and operational readiness to ensure smooth releases and stable production services.
• Participate in support activities as required (e.g., incident investigation, problem management, root-cause analysis) and drive permanent fixes and preventative improvements.

Requirements

• 6+ years’ experience in software development across both Waterfall and Agile delivery environments. Strong back-end development experience, including system integration and/or migration.
• Front-end development experience is a plus.
• Knowledge on DevOps, Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD), Agile control Framework.
• Strong working experience with Java, Spring Framework, and RESTful APIs. Exposure to Spring Cloud and/or MuleSoft is a plus.
• Development experience on Seeburger BIS, EDI etc. is a plus.
• Experience with databases (e.g., Oracle, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and development automation.
• Familiarity with engineering and delivery tools such as Confluence, Jira, Jenkins, Ansible, Git/GitHub, SonarQube (or equivalent).
• Exposure to Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, and containerisation (Docker) is a plus.
• Familiar with test automation frameworks such as Junit.
• Experience with production support, incident management, and improving service reliability is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor others, share knowledge, and raise engineering standards through example.
• Forward-thinking and able to make sound technical decisions aligned to strategy, with a strong sense of accountability for outcomes and quality.
