Products produced and distributed from this location enable scientists to make the world a safer place and enables customers in areas such as developing and identifying new plant hybrids, testing and tracking of food products for food safety, and research to support human diagnostic testing. The Alexandria site represents a centre of excellence for Biosearch Technologies in the areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service by supplying and supporting customers and team members around the world. Our services are accredited to the ISO 9001 quality standard.

This role is responsible for leading a cross-functional team focused on Column Consumables Manufacturing to meet the manufacturing needs of the Alexandria site.  Products manufactured by this teams will be supplied to both internal and external customers.  This position works directly with the Site Director to ensure that the operations of the team align with all company procedures and external regulatory requirements. This position directly supervises and supports the assigned staff, leading by example, and ensuring that all tasks are prioritized and completed successfully and with highest quality. The Consumables Manager – Columns interfaces with many branches of the company (both inside and outside of the Alexandria site), along with external customers. This position is also responsible for communicating and helping to monitor the On Time in Full (OTIF), Turn Around Time (TAT), and Right First Time (RFT) metrics for the group and driving improvements in process and methods to effect positive changes to those metrics. This position is responsible for planning of workspace, equipment and personnel needs, interfacing with associated groups, and management of a team focused on manufacturing and Quality Control.   In the role of a people manager at LGC this position is responsible for overseeing a team of employees and is responsible for specific deliverables for the business.  The individual in this role executes decisions and judgement based on the outputs or needs of the department, site, and organization.  This position drives business results by working closely with team members; communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising individual performance; coaching and taking corrective actions when situations dictate.   As a people manager this position maintains staff by recruiting, hiring, familiarizing, and training employees, fostering personal growth opportunities and talent managing team and individual performance.   

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to capably perform each of the following essential duties: Participate in or manage the process of the hiring of staff as needed to complete assigned work Ensure staff is appropriately trained on all required procedures prior to performing and verify training as needed Manage the priorities of each team, ensuring that the changing needs of the company and customers are reflected in those priorities at all times Ensure manufacturing priorities are completed by; managing shop orders and due dates, properly scheduling employees, appropriately scheduling maintenance activities, verifying equipment is functioning and properly maintained Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal customers, internal suppliers, and team members to ensure the most efficient use of time and resources Ensure appropriate work instructions are in place and up to date for all processes to support standardized work, clarity of expectations for all processes, and continuous improvement of processes Provide effective leadership through; performance evaluations and goal setting, active coaching and mentoring of team members, supplying technical expertise to team members, enforcing company policy and managing individual performance issues Proactively interface with production groups and internal customers to identify and implement areas of continuous improvement   Execute on objectives and goals to support a positive, efficient, and motivated team Research, implement, and maintain equipment as needed to perform operational functions at the scales or volumes required by the organization Review and report data to team for OTIF, RFT, and TAT metrics and take measures to positively affect these numbers Apply financial disciplines to the manufacturing and production processes to maintain and improve margin performance of our products.  Work closely with product management, Site Director, and the Finance Manager to understand margin trends and recommend improvements Make recommendations to management as necessary regarding resources required to meet manufacturing objectives, including raw materials, equipment, employees, and production space Periodically review the workload of the team members and take necessary measures to streamline processes as needed to maximize efficiencies and impacts of the teams Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment Ensure operational of all team activities and processes in accordance with Safety and Quality processes  Perform other duties as required, or assigned by management, to meet business needs

Essential Knowledge and Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, business administration, Quality Control, or a related field or equivalent amount of experience  5 years of demonstrated work experience in a related field including management of manufacturing teams  Experience working in an ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 certified QMS, or equivalent, environment  Working knowledge or training in Lean or Continuous Improvement concepts  Proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office software and inventory management system  Professional presence and strong attention to detail  Proven leadership skills in a manufacturing environment  Experience hiring, training, leading and developing employees 

Desired Knowledge and Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience  10+ years of industry experience and 5+ years of supervisory experience

The customary salary range for this position is: Minimum : $90,000/annually  Maximum : $147,000/annually The salary range provided covers the minimum and maximum amounts projected for this role. The base salary will be influenced by factors like experience, skills, and location.
