Junior

A well-established electrical contractor based in the Thames Valley is looking to recruit an experienced electrician who is ready to move from the tools into an office-based management role.

This is a genuine long-term career opportunity for someone who wants to learn the commercial and management side of an electrical contracting business.

The successful candidate will work closely alongside one of the company’s Directors, effectively acting as his understudy and learning all aspects of estimating, sales, project management, commercial responsibility, health and safety and general business management.

The aim is to develop the right person over the next few years, gradually increasing their responsibilities and helping them progress into a senior management position, with the potential to take on much of the Director’s current role in the future.

The Role

You will receive hands-on training and mentoring while learning:

  • Electrical estimating and tender preparation
  • Project management
  • Sales and client development
  • Labour and materials planning
  • Project costing and commercial awareness
  • Health and Safety procedures
  • Contractual and legal responsibilities
  • Client and supplier management
  • Company systems and procedures
  • General business and operational management

Relevant external training courses will also be provided as your role develops.

The Person

We are looking for an experienced electrician with a strong practical understanding of electrical installations and site operations.

You should:

  • Be a fully qualified electrician
  • Have at least 10 years’ post-apprenticeship experience
  • Have a strong technical understanding of electrical installations
  • Be comfortable dealing with clients, site teams and suppliers
  • Be organised, reliable and commercially aware
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be interested in learning estimating, project management and the commercial side of the industry
  • Be looking for a long-term move away from being permanently site-based

Previous estimating or project management experience is not essential.

The company is specifically looking for someone with strong practical electrical experience who can be trained and developed into the role.

The Company

Our client is a well-established privately owned electrical contractor operating throughout the Thames Valley.

The business has an annual turnover of approximately £6 million to £8 million and already has a significant proportion of its 2027 workload secured.

They have an established client base, experienced management team and a strong reputation within the industry.

Salary and Benefits

  • Starting salary around £35,000
  • Company vehicle
  • Pension scheme
  • Structured training and development
  • External professional and technical training
  • Regular salary reviews as responsibility increases
  • Excellent long-term promotion prospects
  • Opportunity to progress into senior management

This position would particularly suit an experienced electrician who has spent many years on site and now wants to use that knowledge to develop a long-term career in estimating, project management and eventually senior management.

It is a rare opportunity to learn directly from an experienced company Director and become an important part of the future management structure of an established electrical business.
