Job Title: Import Operations Assistant / Permit Declarant
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit import permit declarations through Singapore Customs’ TradeNet system accurately and promptly.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, airway bills and certificates of origin before permit submission.
- Verify HS codes, product descriptions, customs values, countries of origin, quantities and applicable GST or duties.
- Ensure imported goods comply with Singapore Customs requirements and relevant controlling-agency regulations.
- Apply for permits, licences or approvals from the relevant authorities when required.
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, transporters and warehouse teams.
- Monitor shipment arrivals and arrange customs clearance and cargo delivery.
- Follow up on permit rejections, declaration errors, missing documents, customs queries and shipment discrepancies.
- Prepare permit amendments, cancellations and refund applications when necessary.
- Maintain proper records of permits and supporting documents for audit and regulatory purposes.
- Update shipment information and permit status accurately in the company’s operating system.
- Provide customers and internal departments with timely updates on shipment and clearance status.
- Check freight, handling, duty, GST and other shipment-related charges before billing.
- Assist with import operations, data entry, filing, reporting and other administrative duties.
- Ensure all declarations comply with company procedures and Singapore Customs regulations.
- Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or management.
Requirements
- GCE N/O-Level, NITEC, Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant experience in freight forwarding, logistics, import operations or permit declaration is preferred.
- Knowledge of TradeNet, HS classification and Singapore Customs procedures is an advantage.
- Careful, responsible and able to work accurately under tight deadlines.
- Good communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and logistics-related systems.
- Willing to attend relevant declarant training or obtain the required competency certification, where applicable.
