In-House Lawyer - Wills & Trusts
About the Role
We are looking for an In-House Lawyer with experience in Wills & Trusts. The role will focus on will-writing and related estate-planning services, including conducting client consultations, understanding clients' family and financial circumstances and succession wishes, and preparing wills tailored to their individual needs and objectives.
As part of the Company's longer-term strategic plans, we are also exploring the establishment of a trust business. The successful candidate may therefore have the opportunity to progressively expand into trust, succession-planning and fiduciary work as the business develops.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct client consultations to understand clients' family circumstances, assets, intended beneficiaries and succession wishes.
- Advise clients on will-writing and relevant estate-planning considerations, including executors, beneficiaries, guardians and the intended distribution of assets.
- Draft and review wills and related estate-planning documentation tailored to clients' individual circumstances and instructions.
- Ensure wills and related documentation are properly prepared and executed in accordance with applicable Singapore legal requirements.
- Develop and maintain templates, client questionnaires, checklists, procedures and other documentation supporting the Company's will-writing and estate-planning services.
- Maintain proper client records and uphold appropriate standards of confidentiality, data protection and professional conduct.
- Keep abreast of relevant legal and regulatory developments relating to wills, succession and estate planning in Singapore.
- Where required, support the Company's future development of trust and fiduciary services, including research, documentation, policies, procedures and operational readiness.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with relevant legal training and experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in will-writing, estate planning, probate, estate administration, private-client practice and/or related areas would be advantageous.
- Good knowledge of Singapore laws and legal requirements relating to wills, succession and estate planning.
- Strong legal drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable conducting client consultations and explaining legal and estate-planning matters in a clear and practical manner.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High standards of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and contribute to the development of a new in-house estate-planning capability.
- Experience in trusts, fiduciary services or private wealth would be advantageous.
