Job Summary:

Support the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, preparing authentic Italian dishes, supervising staff, and maintaining food quality and safety standards to ensure a smooth and efficient kitchen environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and food preparation.
  • Prepare and cook Italian dishes according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, portioning and food quality.
  • Supervise and guide kitchen team members during daily operations.
  • Assist with menu preparation, recipe development and new dish trials where required.
  • Monitor food stocks, portion control and minimise food wastage.
  • Ensure proper food storage, handling and kitchen hygiene in accordance with food safety requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, equipment and work areas.
  • Assist with ordering and inventory control of food supplies.
  • Monitor kitchen workflow and ensure timely preparation of food during service.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff and support their development.
  • Assist the Head Chef with rostering and allocation of kitchen duties where required.
  • Take charge of the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef.
  • Comply with workplace safety, food hygiene and company policies.
  • Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in Italian or Western cuisine.
  • Experience in a Sous Chef or senior Chef role will be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Good leadership and communication skills.
  • Able to work well in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, reliability and willingness to take a hands-on approach.
  • Able to work shifts, weekends and public holidays where required.
