Computational Biologist (m/f/d) - Genome Editing Trait Discovery (Bioinformatician)

As a Computational Biologist (m/f/d) – Genome Editing Trait Discovery, you will play a central role in identifying and prioritizing candidate genes for genome editing applications. In doing so, you will combine biological expertise with modern data-driven and computer-aided methods.
As part of our Gene Nomination Team, you will operate at the interface of biology, plant breeding, bioinformatics, and Data Science. You will contribute to transforming complex multi-omics datasets into valuable insights and developing innovative approaches, including data mining and AI-supported methods, for the identification of candidate genes.
This is a full-time, permanent position based at the headquarters of KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA in Einbeck, Germany.
Your Tasks
- You will contribute your biological expertise to the development, validation, and implementation of AI-supported approaches for identifying candidate genes.
- You will analyze, integrate, and interpret complex multi-omics datasets to support the search for candidate genes for trait development.
- You will support research projects and stakeholders from Trait Discovery, Breeding Technology Applications, and other R&D areas with your expertise in Computational Biology.
- You will act as a scientific interface between biology, breeding, bioinformatics, and Data Science, translating biological questions into data-based solution approaches.
- You will evaluate innovative technologies and modern computer-aided methods to further increase the speed, scalability, and impact of Trait Discovery.
- There is the possibility to develop and lead your own scientific projects in the areas of candidate gene ranking, knowledge discovery platforms, and Data Mining.
- You will work closely with Data Science teams to translate new approaches into scalable, user-friendly workflows and platforms.
Bring Your Potential
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Plant Sciences, Data Science, or a comparable field.
- Several years of experience in the analysis and interpretation of extensive biological datasets, for example from genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, or other omics areas.
- Proven expertise in the application of data mining, machine learning, and/or AI-supported methods for the identification and prioritization of candidate genes.
- Good understanding of plant biology, plant breeding, genetics, genome editing, or processes of trait development.
- Experience in leading scientific projects is an advantage.
- Proficient use of programming languages and tools for scientific data analysis, such as Python, R, or workflow management systems.
- Entrepreneurial thinking, passion for innovation, and the ability to translate scientific challenges into creative solutions.
- Strong ability to collaborate and exert influence in interdisciplinary teams within a matrix organization.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Very good written and spoken English skills; German skills are an advantage.
