Postdoc in microstructure-informed modeling of fracture mechanics
Tasks
The position encompasses both experimental and numerical studies within fracture mechanics. The experimental work focuses on developing new specimen geometries to study the evolution of defects, especially void formation, under a wide spectrum of stress states, using advanced X-ray computed tomography (CT) in both interrupted and in situ experiments. Initial studies will be conducted using the department's own micro-CT equipment and will later be expanded to synchrotron experiments in collaboration with national and international partners. The experimental results will then be used to develop improved models for damage evolution in continuum-based non-local material models, adapted for implementation in finite element models for fracture analysis. These models will be applied to study the ductile-to-brittle transition in HSLA steels.
Qualifications
Requirements
A completed doctoral degree or a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than when the employment decision is made. In addition to your scientific skills and pedagogical ability, a relevant doctoral thesis, international experience, and proficiency in English are desirable as they are required in daily work. We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative postdoc with a strong background in experimental and computational fracture mechanics. We expect the candidate to be able to work independently, present and disseminate their research results at international conferences and through scientific publications in high-ranking journals, as well as demonstrate high scientific rigor and integrity. The role involves close collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines, support to doctoral students, and the ability to analyze and handle complex challenges in a professional manner.
Meritorious
A maximum of three years since the completion of a doctoral degree or a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree at the final application date. Experience in mechanical testing and X-ray computed tomography (CT) at the micro- and nanoscale is meritorious. Good knowledge and experience in non-linear numerical analyses with FEM. Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality. Ability to collaborate. Independence.
We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
