KTH now welcomes talented and highly motivated candidates to apply for this PhD position. The PhD student will develop new algorithms and sound methods, formalize their theoretical foundations, and evaluate them experimentally. The research has a broad focus within machine learning and may include, among other things, algorithmic knowledge discovery, data mining from graphs and analysis of social networks, optimization for machine learning, representation learning, as well as fair, accountable, and transparent machine learning.
This PhD position in machine learning leads to a joint doctoral degree from KTH (Sweden) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU, Singapore). The person employed will be admitted to doctoral studies at KTH and spend at least twelve months at NTU as part of the program.

Eligibility for admission
To be admitted to doctoral studies (chap 7 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance) the applicant must have basic eligibility:
a master's degree, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at the advanced level, or in some other way, acquired within or outside the country, knowledge mainly corresponding to these.
The candidate must be able to commit to a research stay of at least twelve months at NTU in Singapore. This is a requirement for this specific position.
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6.
Selection
To succeed in your PhD studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. During the selection of applicants, the ability to:
independently drive your work forward, collaborate with others, maintain a professional approach, analyze and work with complex issues.
The applicant shall have completed, or be close to completing, a master's degree in computer science, machine learning, AI, data science, or a related field.
The applicant shall have strong academic merits, supported by very good study results or relevant projects.
The applicant should be highly motivated and possess good knowledge in one or more of the following areas: algorithm design, machine learning, mathematical optimization, and learning theory. Furthermore, the applicant should have good programming skills to be able to implement algorithms and evaluate their performance.
After the eligibility requirements, great importance will be placed on personal qualities.

Information about admission and employment
Only those admitted to doctoral studies may be employed as a PhD student. The total period of employment may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. An employed PhD student may, to a limited extent (at most 20%), perform certain tasks within, e.g., education and administration. A new employment as a PhD student is valid for at most one year; the employment may thereafter be renewed for at most two years at a time. For studies intended to be completed with a licentiate degree, the total period of employment may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
