Project description

Research education subject: Applied physics

We are seeking a PhD student who wants to develop next-generation reconfigurable photonic platforms for quantum technology. The project combines non-linear optics, ferroelectric materials, micro-/nanofabrication, and quantum photonics, with a focus on programmable ferroelectric-based components. You will become part of a dynamic and international research group at KTH Applied Physics, where experiments, material development, and new photonic concepts meet. You will work in close collaboration with leading research groups in materials science and quantum technology, both at KTH and internationally. We are looking for you with a background in engineering physics, physics, photonics, quantum technology, or equivalent. The project is fully funded.

Supervision: Carlota Canalias is proposed to supervise the PhD student. Decision is made upon admission.

Eligibility for admission

To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance) the applicant must have basic eligibility:

completed a degree at an advanced level, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at an advanced level, or have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to Engelska B/6.

Selection

To succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. During the selection of applicants, the ability to:

independently drive your work forward, be able to collaborate with others, have a professional approach, and analyze and work with complex issues, will be assessed.

It is meritorious if you have documented knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: generation and characterization of squeezed light, ferroelectricity, as well as manufacturing, structuring, and use of ferroelectric crystals for non-linear optical applications. Experience in experimental work in quantum optics, non-linear optics, or photonic component manufacturing is also meritorious.

Following the eligibility requirements, great importance will be placed on personal qualities.

Target degree: PhD

Information about admission and employment

Only those admitted to doctoral studies may be employed as a PhD student. The total period of employment may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral studies for four years.
