What You’ll Be Doing
As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll support the Nursery Chef in delivering nutritious meals while helping to maintain a safe, organised and welcoming kitchen environment. You’ll also work closely with the wider nursery team to ensure children receive the highest standards of care throughout the day.
You will:
Support the Nursery Chef with the preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks.
Help ensure children’s dietary requirements, allergies and nutritional needs are met.
Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen in line with Safer Food Better Business guidance and COSHH.
Complete daily cleaning schedules and maintain accurate records.
Assist with food preparation and meal service in accordance with Kindred policies.
Monitor kitchen supplies and report when stock requires replenishing.
Carry out laundry duties and support the smooth day-to-day running of the nursery.
Cover aspects of the Nursery Chef role during planned absences where appropriate.
Support practitioner lunch cover when required.
Build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
Promote healthy eating and positive mealtime experiences.
Follow safeguarding, food hygiene, health and safety and company policies at all times.
What You’ll Need
Essential:
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
A positive, reliable and proactive approach.
Good attention to detail.
A commitment to maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness.
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to complete during induction).
Desirable:
Previous experience working as a Kitchen Assistant or within a catering environment.
Experience within a childcare, education or healthcare setting.
Knowledge of COSHH and Safer Food Better Business guidance.
